'Survivor' Winner Arrested

Brian Heidik ATLANTA (AP) -- A winner of the popular reality show "Survivor" was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shooting a puppy with an arrow. Brian Heidik, 38, was released on bond after being charged with battery and cruelty to animals.

During the bond hearing in Douglas County Magistrate Court, Heidik told a judge he thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets, WSB-TV reported on its Web site.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Stan Copeland said it was a puppy. "At about 3 a.m., his wife called to report that he was outside and that he had shot a puppy that was on his property with an arrow and planned to shoot another one," Copeland said.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, Heidik -- who won "Survivor:Thailand" in 2002 -- fled in his car but was quickly caught and taken back to the home where the incident occurred.

Heidik's wife, Charmaine, and 5-year-old son were present at the home at the time of the incident, Copeland said.

Copeland said there was evidence in the home to support a charge of battery for family violence. Because the case is pending, he could not elaborate on the nature of the evidence.

Both the wounded puppy and the second puppy were turned over to animal control officials to determine who they belonged to.

Heidik did not immediately respond to a a message from The Associated Press left on an answering machine at one of two phones listed in his name in Douglasville, which is 21 miles west of Atlanta. There was no answer Wednesday afternoon at the second
number.

Heidik is a former North Carolina State football player,used-car salesman and part-time actor.

5. Does anyone realize it was 3AM (kinda dark outside?) If the "puppy's" were German Shepard pups, Labrador pups etc ... at an early age, they can still be larger than a coyote. As was stated, he has pets ... I think he was pretty smart to use a bow & arrow and not a firearm which would have scared the neighbors. I have seen what coyotes can do to pets ... have you? Dogs running free in the Midwest is a huge problem, they pack-up and get the taste of blood. I am sure there are similar cases in GA. try leaving your Fiffy, or your children outside all night unprotected. IT WAS 3AM! Nik

10. Nik Nak

it was 3 am ... we dont know the whole story ... injuring any animal is a criminal offense if it is done on purpose ... there are other ways to make sure coyotes' dont come in your yard ... its called ... become country and learn the hard way lol ... skunk piss keeps away most predators!

So are you also condoning him of beating his wife too? Since you know it was 3am in the morning lol

11. oh oh oh i gotta do one more...

Nik you ask if people would leave their children outside all night...

most animal lovers treat their own animals as children and couldnt see harming another animal. PLUS he said that these coyotes' had been harrassing his pets.

Any responsible dog owner would have immediately...the first night of expected coyote harrassment, KEPT THEIR DAMN DOGS INSIDE SO THEY WOULDNT GET EATEN

and if not that...find an alternate way to keep them safe...

15. Nik Nak, give me a few more excuses as to why it's ok to shoot puppies.

It must not have been that dark (outside lights), unless he was using night vision goggles. Puppies are pretty small (even larger breeds).

I think he was pretty smart to use a bow & arrow and not a firearm which would have scared the neighbors.

I'd be most concerned that my wacko neighbor is shooting things that are in his yard, period, reguardless of weapon.
