Bogus Lawsuit Against Brandy?

2/5/2007 5:12 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The $50 million lawsuit filed by the parents of the woman killed in the Brandy car crash may get thrown out of court.

TMZ has done some digging and here's the lowdown. Awatef Aboudihaj was killed December 30 after Brandy's vehicle rear-ended her on a Los Angeles freeway. Aboudihaj was married with two children. Under California law, only the husband, not the parents, can sue for wrongful death.

We're told the parents' lawsuit was filed without consulting the husband beforehand. Even more interesting, Aboudihaj has been living in the United States for 11 years. Her parents have been living in Morocco full-time, so contact between parents and daughter was minimal.

Aboudihaj's parents could file suit if they were financially dependent on her, but we're told that was not the case.

As for Aboudihaj's husband, TMZ has learned he is being represented by Los Angeles attorney Bill Sayed. Sayed tells TMZ he is currently investigating Brandy's net worth and says the matter "will be resolved by settlement or jury verdict." Sayed would not say how much money he'll be demanding, but said it will probably be a combination of Brandy's insurance policy limit -- plus something additional from Brandy herself.

Calls to the attorney for Aboudihaj's parents were not returned.

OK someone died, very sad, but the money thing really ticks me off. First of all I saw on the news last week that the husband was claiming that she was the sole provider, and if that's the case he needs to get off his ass and get a job, freeloading son of a bitch! Secondly, why is it that when someone gets hurt or dies all their "loved ones" see are dollar signs. Aren't these people worth more than money? Don't they realize that by immediately going after someone's money they look like scum bags. Sh*t, maybe this lady slammed on her breaks because she was sick of living with a money grubbing husband and ungreatful parents! Also, I would like to know if she and her husband are legal US residents, because I am sick and tired of illegal aliens getting rich for doing nothing!!!!! Dead or alive!

It's crazy that you guys are letting this topic take you to racial rage. Y'all shouldn't give racists and their remarks that much control. That's making this a boring post.

Re: The article

You never know who's really genuine these days. Either way, we can't put a price on life. All of Brandy's money won't bring the woman back. Who knows how it may be affecting Brandy's conscience, just knowing that her car was involved in the cause of someone's death...

Lawyers are vultures and sizing up her net worth, to determine what that woman's life was worth, with plans to exhaust her life insurance policy and then some, is simply inhumane. It's seems heartless and robotic. Of Course, I think Brand should give the husband something, but $50 million!!!!

Why all this money, because Brandy's a celebrity? What about all the people who lose their lives in car "accidents" at the fault of a middle-class citizen. The aren't rewarded $50 million.

Think About It!

It doesn't seem right.

May God exercise his will to bring justice to all beings involved in this tragedy.

Ok Brandy accepted full responsibility for the accidnet. But looking into her net worth is so stupid, that highway ppl die everyay n theyre makin a federal case out of it bc its a celeb. Its not like she was drunk liek paris or lindsay who get away with murder. This was an honest accident and she can get up to a year in jail for a stupid law. The dumb bitch slammed on her breaks on the 405, i just hope her kids are okay.
