Sanjaya's New Look: Orphan Chic

"American Idol" "singer" Sanjaya Malakar made his way to the Record Plant recording studio in Los Angeles on Saturday, looking like he'd lost his way from an alternative high school production of "Oliver."

Wearing a bucket cap, brass medallion, and charming black purse, the ponyhawked singer recorded some tracks for this week's show, which will feature crooner legend Tony Bennett.

That's right, Tony Bennett, 80, and Sanjaya -- sharing the same stage. In 2005, Bennett received a Kennedy Center Honor, but working with Sanjy has to be a career highlight.

6. LOVE it! I love how he's talent-free, yet dominating the show. He reminds me so much of both Ashlee and Jessica Simpson; mediocre singing ability, yet popular and has great hair, except at least HIS is real! Rock on Sanjaya! There are much worst "artists" on the charts making money so there's definitely room for you!!

8. Does America feel sorry for this guy by keeping him on -or- is this a cruel joke America is playing on him by making him think he can sing? Either way, his gig is up. It's time to get real and let him go.

13. To the commenters # 8 and # 9 ------ such spewing of hate talk, and obcsenties,
does very little for any comment you make. You sound like you belong in
an institution.
This is only a TV show - and for those that continue to vote, for Sanjaya - they are
too adolescent,or immature to realize they are ruining the show - and in their
"fun" of it all...taking a Fun American show and pushing right down the tube. -
I hope the producers find a way to get back on track with voting.

14. I see the daily "trash a kid" story is now up for your enjoyment. If Justin Timberlake can sell cd's, certainly Sanjaya can. All it takes is a good publicist and a little payola to radio and we can have another popstar.

15. Even though there is much debate on wether sanjaya should be eliminated or not from idol, people should remember he is just a kid, and there has been far too many negative remarks. I mean what kind of mean public have we become .....totally bashing a young man because we dont like his singing? Idol is a show where people vote to keep you on or let you go, and i would say it's impossible for Sanjaya to making these millions of voting calls himself.....why can't people stop being so cruel....just think it were your brother, sister or even son or daughter being ridiculed.
