Accused of a

Beyoncé Knowles is going to war with a pop star from the past who claims the former Destiny's Child star covered her song, but didn't cover her ass.

According to a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court by music administators, Beyoncé allegedly never obtained proper clearance to cover a song called "I'm Kissing You," originally co-written by a singer named Des'ree -- famous for her 1994 smash hit, "You Gotta Be." Des'ree's version was used in Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film "Romeo and Juliet," Beyoncé's version can be found on the re-release of her album, "B'Day."

In the lawsuit, Des'ree and her reps claim that Beyoncé, along with her record company people, originally tried to work out a deal to use the song. When they weren't satisfied with the proposed terms -- which included not being able to change the title or make a music video for the song -- Beyoncé allegedly blew off copyright law completely, and recorded the song and video without permission. The song was eventually released on Beyoncé's album, "B'Day - Deluxe Edition" on April 3, 2007, with the title "Still in Love (Kissing You)."

Des'ree is suing to halt distribution of the song, video and album and seeking at least $150,000 in damages.

Lawyers for Beyoncé and Des'ree couldn't be reached for comment.

$150,000?????????????????????????? She can't be serious. Who's advising this girl? And B thinks she's all that (I said that she didn't) because she is, inside and out. This is pocket change to her. To the other idiot, Jay doesn't have to sell drugs; he's a multi-millionaire, and he could buy and sell your ass. boy oh boy, haters are everywhere. roflmao

Pause haters. It's perfectly legal to cover another performers song without their permisssion. You have to get a "compulsory license". Google the term to learn more.

Beyonce does have a nice set of pipers on her, but maybe creativity just isn't one of her fortes.

either way, that scene was the worst part of Romero & Juliet. I found it hard to believe that the Capulets would hire Des'ree for such a shindig.

Don't forget she has also been caught with the big fat lie about her age being 24 verses her true age of 32 ...cover up of 7 years.
She a B@tch .......

LISTEN to the songs. Beyoncé rewrote a lot of it, only keeping the "kissing you" chorus and melody in. AND she does credit Des'ree and the other writer in her liner notes. More than likely it was an issue with her record company failing to get the correct licensing.

Grow Up

That's so sad Beyonce stooped to that level. This is not the first time she has been sued about a song. She also got sued over "Baby Boy" in 2005. It was always apparent that Beyonce and her family are nothing but a bunch of liars and beats. I agree with Jewish Princess none of this surprises me either because people have allowed her to behave like this. And of course the Beyonce Police will be on this site shortly calling people names for telling the truth about her. That makes me wonder what type of character some of her fans has to continue to support this lying thief. I understand that everyone has faults and sins but enough is enough.

You don't need a license to record a cover of someone elses song. all you have to do is give notice to the copyright owner notice within 30 days of the song being recorded, and before it is distributed. its called a compulsory license

dumb media whore

Yeah, you can cover songs without the artists permission, but you can't put them in an album and sell them without compensation.
