TMZ has received a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department regarding the 82-minute incarceration of Nicole Richie:

On August 23 2007, at 3:15 PM Miss Nicole Camille Richie reported to CRDF and surrendered herself following a July 27 arrest, she was sentenced to serve 96 hours in County Jail. Miss Richie was accompanied by her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley and her boyfriend Joel Madden. Miss Richie was booked and processed into the jail system. Miss Richie was cooperative during the process. Based on her sentence and federal court guidelines, Miss Richie was released at 4:37 PM today.

2. It probably took longer to book her than it took for her to actually sit in the cell for 20 minutes.

I've taken longer on the toilet than she spent in jail. Once again, absolute joke.

13. How ridiculous. Nicole, Paris, Lindsay--they all broke the law and now Nicole and Lindsay are practically getting off scot-free! Whether or not this is unusual it's still not right. No sense in having laws laid down if they aren't going to be enforced for all people.

15. It probably started before OJ and now celebs get out-of jail free card is waiting before they even get booked. Us poor suckers we have to do our time, because we can't afford the lawyer that scares the hell out of the DA. Life is just about over and we at the bottom will one day see what GOD's plan really is.
