Prosecutor in Kiefer Case -- A Slammer Jammer

10/9/2007 8:16 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ has obtained the sentencing recommendations in the Kiefer Sutherland DUI case.

The sentence is complicated, but Kiefer will do 48 days in custody.

Kiefer will do 18 days for the probation violation, surrendering December 21. He will serve an additional 30 days for the current DUI and must complete that sentence by July 1.

Based on what TMZ knows about production schedules, that would mean Kiefer is serving the bulk of his sentence when "24" is on Christmas holiday and not in production -- he may have agreed to the speedy disposition of the case in order to protect the show from having to shut down production.

Kiefer's lawyer, Blair Berk, would not comment on the case.

UPDATE: A rep for Twentieth Century Fox and the FOX Broadcasting Group issued this statement: "Today our friend Kiefer Sutherland resolved his criminal case at the earliest opportunity. Kiefer made clear to us at the time of his arrest that his first concern was the welfare of those he worked with and that he intended to do whatever was necessary to prevent shutting down the show because of his situation. He told us that even if he had to sacrifice more time in custody in order to protect the show and the jobs of those who work with him, he would do so. From what occurred today, it is evident he is a man of his word. We wish him well and look forward to a long relationship with him."

Stop the haters - Kiefer is the bomb. Just becuz people are rich and famous doesn't mean they are immune to bad decision making. 24 is the best series on TV in a long time. Go bash Britney - someone who really has a problem

Perez Hilton and Tmz need to get over this, They do not influence the judicial system.
In fact they may be part of that crappy jury pool that gave Phil Spector the hung Jury.
Keefer Sutherland is an established Actor, He made a mistake , like all of your Photographers do and he is a man that will pay for mistakes, unlike some other native Californians.
Get over it....I LOVE 24 AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE KEEFER!!!!!!!!!!

It's interesting that so many support him because he's a good ACTOR and they love 24!! What does his job have to do with the fact that he has multiple DUI's andhe just wracked up another one? Anyone with that many drunk driving convictions over the years is a danger. It's like a habitual, cyclical thing with him.

He has a bucket of money because he is such a great GUY and great ACTOR and has such a great SHOW.Swell. Maybe the great guy might think about saving a few lives someday by never driving again.

He is a jerk. A 4th DUI! Her could of killed someone (again). The next time he opens his mouth I want to hear him say "My name is Keifer and I am an Alcoholic". Drunk drivers kill people everyday! He is a spoiled Hollywood actor who has gotten away with this CRIME time & again. Whats so sad is that drunk drivers most of the time do not die in the car wrecks they cause they kill innocent people. This guy is a self centered jerk who needs a butt kicking~

Go with the Flow!

I love Kiefer but I hate drunk drivers more for I have lost several family members at the
hands of drunk driving. It is weird how many other celebrities can serve less time for
bigger or repeated crimes though!

Can you imagine Kiefer Sutherland having to go through what Paris Hilton had to go
through and being hauled back to jail screaming for his pappa? Still wonder if Sheriff
LeBaca has been punished for all that drama yet? I know it must have got swept under
his big floppy ears.

He knows he has a problem and at least he protected the people he works with. Not too many would do that.
I agree with the network. Man of his word. And that is worth more than all the prison time.
24 shot were I work and he was the greatest to everyone.
Bravo Kiefer for stepping up.

"Kiefer made clear to us at the time of his arrest that his first concern was the welfare of those he worked with and that he intended to do whatever was necessary to prevent shutting down the show because of his situation." ........YEA, RIGHT!!!! IF HE REALLY FELT THAT WAY, HE WOULD NEVER HAVE PUT HIMSELF IN THE SITUATION TO GET PICKED UP FOR DUI.......AGAIN.

"He told us that even if he had to sacrifice more time in custody in order to protect the show and the jobs of those who work with him, he would do so." ......OH PLEEEEEEZE, GIVE ME A BREAK. HE KNOWS HE PROBABLY WON'T SERVE ALL OF THE 48 DAYS. THEY WILL PROBABLY LET HIM OUT IN 48 HOURS.

Oh, REALLY? Well, I am just so glad to know that after he got arrested for barrelling his way down the street in a drunken stupor, Keiffer's "first concern" was about his co-workers. Uhhh, excuse me, but what about the people whose lives he endangered by his classicly selfish behavior?

Oh, that's right, I forgot. We civillians are supposed to be HAPPY at the honor of being maimed, burned or killed by a Hollwood actor.
