The Audacity -- Hogan Blames Victim for Injuries

Nick's rep, Adam Handelsman, EVP of 5WPR, issued the following statement to TMZ:

"Nick and the entire Hogan Bollea family are saddened that criminal charges have been filed in regards to the tragic single car accident on August 26, 2007.

Nick will meet and answer these charges in the appropriate arena a court of law. The family's primary focus and concern still remains for the continued recovery of Nick's longtime friend John Graziano. The Bolleas will also continue to stand by the Graziano family and help them in any way they can.

The tragedy to both families is compounded by the fact that unfortunately John was not wearing his seatbelt. Thankfully, Nick was wearing his.

Because of what happened to John, the entire Bollea family will make it a priority to increase public awareness about the importance of always wearing your seatbelt. There has been much speculation as to the speed and wet road conditions surrounding this accident. Although all the evidence has not been evaluated, preliminary reports from the experts indicate that this was not, in fact, a high-speed accident. Because Nick is still a juvenile and has no prior criminal record, we are disappointed that he is being charged as an adult offender. However, we are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that this was an accident.

We ask all who follow these events to keep an open mind as to the facts until they have been ultimately determined. Finally, we thank all who have prayed for John's recovery and ask for your continued support and prayers."

4. Sounds like the Hogan's would like to have ZERO accountability for this "error in judgement". Forgive me, but Nick is a real ass for allowing a PR firm to come out and say, "John should have had on a seat belt". Well my friends, Nick should have never been driving. Terry and Linda are too worried about a Rapper gettin' in their daughters pants. Run free Nick, free of all responsiblity - you've earned it.

5. That's right blame the victim! Yes, he should have been wearing a seat belt - but come on! Nick was drunk, speeding and racing - it's his fault. I don't like the tone of the press release at all.

6. raising awareness of seatbelts is great, but NO WHERE NEAR AS IMPORTANT AS RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT DRINKING AND DRIVING! OR EVEN UNDERAGE DRINKING! OR STREET RACING!! How about those causes??

8. Its sad but Nick was the driver ,as such he should have told John to put on the seatbelt or he couldn't ride .John is grown and should have put a seatbelt on ,without being told !!!
So it a "Dumb and Dumberer" situation ...

9. ARE THE HOGANS REALLY TRYING TO SAY THAT THIS IS JOHNS FAULT FOR NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT. WHAT A**HOLES!!!!!! NICK WAS DRINKING AND DRIVING...NICK WAS RACING ....NICK WAS SPEEDING...NICK IS THE ONE WHO CRASHED....AND THIS IS JOHNS FAULT....HMMMMM I HOPE THE FAMILY SUES THE HOGANS FOR TRYING TO BLAME THEIR BRAIN DEAD SON WHO IS SUFFERING BECAUSE OF THE ACTIONS OF THEIR SPOILED BRAT WHO THEY LET RUN WILD.

12. So it's John's fault that he wasn't wearing his seatbelt?!?! As the driver, Nick should have forced him to wear it. He's responsible for the passengers in his car. My car doesn't move unless everyone is wearing their seatbelt. This is a non-negotiable point with me and anyone who drives with me knows it.

My prayers continue for John. And I hope Nick gets his butt kicked in the 'legal arena'.

14. Howcan this rep state Nick was not speeding? It was fully known he was speeding @ a high rate, he was cought 3 other times doing the same thing. But was only given a warning, while others may have been ticketed or arrested. Sadly now, an innocent human being is left lifeless due to this ir-responsible kid who thinks having a sports car is to speed & have races. Sickening & pathetic. How disgusting this Rep is, putting the blame on the young man who was severely injured.
