To me, what the Sedaris gay bashing incident demonstrates is that Jon Stewart's production company, Busboy Productions, really needs to step up its efforts to recruit female and minority writers instead of rely on the Old Boys hiring method. At present, over 95% of the writing jobs at Jon Stewart's Busboy Productions are reserved for white men in their 20s ands 30s. Now in any other industry, if you were to reserve 95 percent of your jobs for white guys you would have a major lawsuit on your hands. But somehow, at the producer of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, this kind of discrimination continues year after year after year. Ironically, the closest parallel is the discriminatory hiring practices of the U.S. Supreme Court, which hires about 90% of its clerks each year strictly from the white male category. Some of the judges have never hired a single female or black clerk in all their years on the bench.
