Kristi Yamaguchi: Triple Putz

When "DWTS" winner Kristi Yamaguchi said last night she'd never had to think about the position of her feet before, she forgot where ice skates went all those years.

Were those triple salchows just luck?

1. She won? Go figure. She's only an Olympic skating winner. She practiced dancing on skates for YEARS.

Doesn't seem quite fair.

4. IMO, for a nimble little Asian manx like her, the best place for her feet is behind her ears... yeah, I said it! hehehe

5. All you Kristi haters are so wrong. Figure skating is not at all the same as ballroom dancing! In figure skating you are not judged on whether you lead with your heels or toe. They are completely different. I didn't hear this much complaining about the ex-boy banders, who certainly dance as part of their career. Everyone comes into the competetion with different strengths and weaknesses.

6. Commenters are showing total ignorance. First, I am a former ice skater, although nowhere near at the level of Kristi. Not to mention, I'm a considerable amount OLDER. Ice skaters work flat footed and it's difficult (although not completely impossible) to point your toes as is required in ballroom dancing in a pair of ice skates. Second, ice skating requires that a move be practiced over and over and over again, until muscle memory takes over. And I'm certain THAT is what Kristi meant.

Try (however difficult it might be) to restrain yourselves from displaying gross ignorance. I was an ICE DANCER and I would have had major issues accomplishing what Kristi has done. She was a singles skater and so the emphasis was only secondarily on the artistic side of the SPORT, although in her case, her attention to detail showed fully even then. That's the reason she is an Olympic champion!

7. How about ice skates being flat on the ice? In dance you have heel leads in some dances and in some your heels are never allowed to touch the floor. Those are just some of the details when it comes to foot placement. Those could possibly be some of the positions she is talking about. Just a shot in the dark.

Then again TMZ is the authority on everything. Right?

8. Had you actually quoted the full statement, your fatuous and degrading headline would be less idiotic than it is, but Harvey likes to trash anyone and will evidently use random pull quotes to do so.

Slime.

Why not post pics of his muscle-bound BF here?

9. Thank you to number 6! I have gone on so many websites and all they do is bash Kristi for having an advantage. People keep saying she was dancing on ice, when that is not what she did at all. She has never done a lift in her life because she was a singles ice skater and to take on being with a partner, using heels, and have to learn how to move your feet in an entirely different is a challenge for anyone. I also agree with number 5, no one complained at all when Drew Lachey won or when Joey Fatone came in second during his season. And what about being a Broadway star, (Marissa) you need to take all sorts of dance lessons all your life to make it on Broadway Talk about dancing for a living, that's all they did! Everyone needs to shut their pie hole because it's not Kristi's fault she is a natural at everything she does and is also a driven competitior. Lay off her. She was the best and she should have won. I am also Mark finally won because he was totally robbed!

11. I think it totallllly unfair that right from the beginning of the season, she already won. She dances on ice. Helloooooo? To put rank amateurs with her in competition...? So wrong.

12. I think she just meant that skating came naturally.

13. AMAZING JOB Kristi ! The win was well deserved!

to all the naysayers.... what is fair about Penn Jillette being a contestant? Or Adam C.? Who did a nice job but are basically without a winning chance?

Posted at 12:16PM on May 21st 2008 by Congrats Kristi Yamaguchi!

14. Actually, Kristi started out as a youth pairs skater, and she has done a little pair work as a professional skater. But the points made by those in the figure-skating know are correct: Figure skating and ballroom dancing are two entirely different disciplines. Kristi Yamaguchi won solidly and fairly. The boy-banders had a bigger advantage than she did. Also note that it is MUCH easier for a man to prevail in a contest such as this. Kristi is completely deserving and I am so thrilled by her HARD-earned win.

15. All those that are bashing one of our country's greatest athlete sare probably Burke's fans, un-American or not a citizen of the greater USA ! You don't have to be a fan, but you should not have to bash her either. You want to bash ,let's go- Burke-in bars ALL the time, smokes, WTF is her fave saying, she shakes her booty and that's it, is getting fat and broad across her flat
BUTT, as far as ideas of a routine she sucks. No pun intended. cristian-his fake injury made an A-- out of him, he can't dance, has no real body to him, no butt, and thinks that he is someones gift...not us Asians, maybe YOU. Jason is a gentleman, don't know what he sees in de la but, whatever. Edyta has no class, no personality, has a great figure, is pretty but doesn't know what to do w- it. Julianne-the greatest pro ever to be on dwts, and we are so happy that she has gone UP the ladder and not Down the ladder to stop off at villa for some drinks...get our drift? INTEGRITY- Sheza, look it up, never sell it for a bad reputation just for publicity......Let's concentrate on getting a President even though we don't have much to choose from.......Domo
