Steroids Scandal on "DWTS"?

DWTS ScandalMove over, A-Roid -- Jewel has now taken your place as the face of cheating in pro sports. Alright, it's dancing ... but still.

Jewel took to her blog yesterday to announce she is battling tendonitis in her knee as she prepares for the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars." But Jewel, unlike seemingly every baseball player, openly admits she is taking steroids to help her stay healthy. She writes, "Hopefully these steroids will really do the trick and I can keep bad flare ups at a bay in the future."

It is unknown what ABC's policy is on performance-enhancing drugs in reality dance competition shows. Certainly if Jewel should go on to win, "DWTS" purists will call for an asterisk next to her name....

76. Wow, shocking! I thought this was a joke inside about a joke when I first saw it, but I guess the grass is a little too greener on the west coast, Obviously viewers and any moron who has had an injury realizes that steroids come in different biological activities (anabolic/sex steroids, corticosteroids/gluccorticoids, and mineralcorticoids). She has no advantage at all and would actually have a disadvantage if she were to use them for long term suppression of the inflammation. Get a life guys.

77. Oh.. for freaking Pete's sake people. Does anyone know the difference between corto-steroids (AKA Prednisone, etc.) versus anabolic performance enhancing steroids??? 'Cause apparently whatever doofus reported this doesn't. This story should be taken down. You are trying to mislead people if you think this is really a valid story.

Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory that I've taken for asthma as well as knee injuries. I don't think Jewel would be stupid enough to go blabbing to everyone that she's taking performance enhancing steroids. She's just trying to take down the pain and swelling in her knee.

81. I know everyone is joking about anabolic steroids being different than corticosteroids, but corticosteriods are on the WADA banned list, when administered, without a Therapeutic Use Exemption, every which way except topically. If people recall, Lance Armstrong was subjected to alot of criticism for using a corticosteroid cream for saddle sores during one Tour de France.

From the WADA's latest Prohibited List:

"S9. GLUCOCORTICOSTEROIDS
All glucocorticosteroids are prohibited when administered by oral, intravenous,
intramuscular or rectal routes.

In accordance with the International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions, a
declaration of use must be completed by the Athlete for glucocorticosteroids
administered by intraarticular, periarticular, peritendinous, epidural, intradermal
and inhalation routes, except as noted below.

Topical preparations when used for auricular, buccal, dermatological (including
iontophoresis/phonophoresis), gingival, nasal, ophthalmic and perianal disorders
are not prohibited and neither require a Therapeutic Use Exemption nor a
declaration of use. "

84. These are corticosteroids like prednisone , which are powerful antiinlammatories. They are not muscle building drugs. In fact they do the opposite. You should really check your facts before you print something this dumb.

85. Moron reporters. Jewel is most likely taking corticosteroids, inflammation fighting steroids, not anabolic steroids, the type used to build muscle. At the least the type being used should have been found out.

86. lets put out thinking caps on tmz...theres a big difference between performance enhancing steroids and steroids prescribed by a doctor...

87. She is using prescribed corticosteroids to decrease the inflammation and pain. They in no way enhance her dance performance. Steroids allow her to practice withing wincing in agony.
