John 3:16 -- 86'd from Final 4

3/23/2009 10:21 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Some religious dude brought one of those "John 3:16" signs to the Siena vs. Ohio State NCAA Tournament basketball game the other night -- but as soon as he put the sign up, some random security guard rushed in for the steal and ripped it down.

FYI -- Siena happens to be a private Catholic school. Apparently Jesus isn't allowed to attend away games.

Holding up John 3:16 is not a bad thing, it has been done at sporting events forever. From hearing about the security they were not even letting pom poms to be exposed because they were a danger. I think that Security had no right of ripping up the sign, it is kind of annoying how we all shake in our boots when religion is mentioned...

Everyone needs to seriously chill out and realize everyone isn't that same, and some like Jesus and some don't. End of story.

And by the way Siena is a Francisan School.

Yes Francisan's are Catholic; however, the main mission of the school is to live out the Franciscan Values, saying its mainly a Catholic school is implying that it is "forced religion."

So where is the ACLU on this? Freedom of speech is just that! That Security Guard should be fired, and he should be required to give a public apology, as well as he should be required to attend sensitivity training. I find it very odd that those folks posting on this board that they hate to have religion shoved down their throats find that this form of freedom isn’t acceptable however when the tables are turned they get upset. What about tolerance? Oh I see it’s a one way street.

Because the action was done to stop a Christian message instead of starting one, the ACLU will not get involved. If he had kept the sign up and someone said they were offended, there would be an ACLU lawsuit in court right now.

Has anyone in this effing country ever heard of the First Amendment?

I'll bet you that a lot of you are cheering when gay people storm churches during their Sunday services for their various protests and you'd go ballistic if someone from the church got physical with them or impeded their protests.

Face it, you're just hypocrites who are as guilty of wanting to silence all opposition to your views as the people you accuse of being the same.

It's amazing the people who want to debate religion. This is about the rules at the game. A couple of posters said the rules were clear, No Signs. If so the the guy was in the wrong and he's fortunate they only took the sign. I have a brother who works as an usher at a major university for football and basketball games. I asked him about this. He said, "Signs are ok, as long as there's no profanity on them. The policy states that it cannot obscure someone's view of them game, and that it cannot be on a pole or a stick. Also, people are not allowed to attach the sign to anything."
