'Twilight' Author

Sued for

Vampire Rip-Off

8/19/2009 10:22 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

steph2-1The author of the "Twilight" series is being sued by a woman who claims the 4th installment is a rip-off of her work.

Jordan Scott claims in her lawsuit, filed today in federal court, that she began writing a novel "in the vampire genre" when she was just 15 -- back in 2003. The novel was published in 2006 and called "The Nocturne."

Scott claims the 4th installment of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series lifted her work. She says Meyer's book -- "Breaking Dawn" is a "significant literary departure from [her] early books..." She says it seems the book is "written by a teenager." Yes, Scott was a teenager when she wrote "The Nocturne."

Scott claims the two books "show striking, articulable and substantial similarities in the ... plot lines, themes, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, characters, sequence of events, ideas and other similarities."

TMZ published a story about the specific plot similarities. Click here to read.

Scott is asking for damages, and that the court impound the "Breaking Dawn" books that are being sold.

I've read the comparisons, and this lawsuit is ridiculous. Elements that were supposedly "stolen" are common to hundreds of romance novels--the fact that the hero calls the heroine "love?" The idea that he fears hurting his virgin wife? The wedding in which it seems to take her forever to walk down the aisle, as he watches her and is filled with love? Oh, and they both have white flowers at the wedding.

If Twilight weren't a catalyst for controversy (Some LOVE it! Some HATE it!) then this lawsuit wouldn't see the light of day.

I cannot believe for a minute that Meyer copied this person's work. It really just doesn't make since, why would she need to do that? This isn't the first book in the series. I just don't think it makes sense at all. I have been reading more about the Twilight Saga at http://www.twilightbook.org

jordan scott is retarded

the Twilight Lexicon (http://www.twilightlexicon.com/) have all the proof that SM is being sued when, in fact, it should be JS being sued, if anything. (http://www.twilightlexicon.com/2009/08/04/stephenie-meyers-claim-supported-aka-copyright-101/) this proves that, if she wanted to, SM could sue JS because of copyrights.
