DJ AM's Death -- Not a Suicide

8/31/2009 1:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

DJ AMLaw enforcement sources directly connected with the death of DJ AM tell us that his death was the result of an accidental overdose and not a suicide -- and there is a tragic, ironic twist of fate.

Our sources say DJ AM, a recovering addict, developed a dependency to Xanax and other benzodiazepines (a group of drugs used to treat anxiety) as a direct result of the plane crash a year ago. We're told AM (aka Adam Goldstein) developed a tremendous anxiety over flying -- something he had to do frequently for his job.

We're told doctors began prescribing Xanax and other anti-anxiety medications to relieve his fear, but the benzos triggered a relapse into addiction. We're told benzos are particularly dicey for recovering addicts.

Our sources say DJ AM's relapse was "recent" -- he was not abusing for a prolonged period of time before his death.

We're also told the OD had "absolutely nothing to do with his recent breakup."

Our sources say the evidence strongly indicates cause of death will be a combination of crack cocaine and benzos.

DEE So what do you suggest for someone who has had a sleeping disorder since they were a child? I have tried many Drs and AAAAALLLL of the sleep meds. If I dont sleep, I dont work, If I dont take xanax, I will be awake for 3 days straight. Soooo what is your PROFESSIONAL diagnosis?? You took it for 3 weeks and you got addicted? What do you take now instead? Do you even have a sleeping disorder?

154. Look most of his friends were tattoo & druggies.

Most of his friends HAD tattoos? Or were tattoos? Are you trying to speak English? Besides that what the hell does having tattoos have to do with any of this?

Someone said it already that he died happy doing what he liked, Smoking crack. That was HIS own choice.

Something to consider, if he has been clean for awhile. DJ AM may have tried to get off on a level he remembered using and that is not good if he has been off for awhile. I seriously doubt it was suicide. Probably a bad relapse

I am not buying it. He had a recent near death experience, and then lost the love of his life, whom which they claimed he loved and was DEVASTATED over the breakup. Devastation + ineffective coping methods= relapse. Can't pull the wool over my eyes sorry. Much like Dr Murray, that b*tch was getting bad rep and felt the need to try to clear her name. It's just as dirty as it was, Hayley.
