Heene Family's Reality Is TV

10/16/2009 3:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

UPDATE 2:20 PM ET -- A TLC official tells TMZ the Heene family approached the network "months ago" with a reality show idea, but the network passed.

TMZ has learned the Heene family has been pitching a reality show about the wacky family, as one TV source put it, "all over town."

Heene Family
We're told Richard Heene pitched a series to Relativity Real, as well as RDF Productions. RDF produces "Wife Swap," on which the family appeared back in March.

We're also told the Heene's have made the rounds at the networks, including TLC. Of course, TLC produced "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

So is balloon boy the ultimate reality show pitch?

Stay tuned...

I listened to most of the 911 call. The distress of the mother seemed real; the father not so much. I think she was kept in the dark and actually believed that her son was in the balloon. During Wolf Blitzer's interview on CNN last night, when Wolf asked the father to ask the boy why he said that 'we did it for the show' did you notice the father looked uncomfortable and never did ask the kid the question that Wolf asked him to ask? Instead, he EVADED. Total giveaway that this was an elaborate hoax for publicity, imho. I could be wrong. We should know before long.

these people are disgusting. the snippets on the news from when he appeared on a reality show were repulsive and the kids were crude--of course they'll get a show-most Americans are idiots and behave the same way.

Let me get this straight:
They were getting ready to launch the balloon w/ no child inside obviously. During the landing, you can see the cardboard box on there. The child had at one point climbed into the box while it was in prep for takeoff, but was caught and reprimanded. They boy hid in the house and they launched the balloon. Immediately after launching, they began looking for the boy and because they couldn't find him, thought he was in the balloon. Then after quite the while and near the time the balloon came down, the boy came out of hiding.
I wish they would have just done a good interview on Larry King, then maybe they could have scored that tv show or something.

I will have a lifetime boycott against any channel that gives them a show. The family should not be rewarded for this horrible situation--careless mistake or publicity stunt.

Ok, a follow-up to a post I made a few minutes ago. I watched the Today show clip, where the father says the boy was showing some TV crews where he hid in the attic, during which the crew told him that it was 'for a tv show'. And that's why the kid said that. It's plausible. We really have to wait for a complete investigation to know more.

Top Ten Reasons This Was A Hoax:

10. Older brother first claimed he saw the 6 year old climb into the basket of the balloon and then changed his story.
9. First call dad made was to the press.
8. Second call dad made was to the FAA.
7. Third call dad made was to 911.
6. Video footage showing the dad and the boys counting down the lift off. The dad even admits the balloon was only supposed to hover 20 feet above the house.
5. Dad knew exactly how much helium was in the balloon and should have been able to calculate how much weight the balloon could carry. Remember, he is a self proclaimed scientist.
4. Boy was hiding in the attic for 3 hours? He heard his parents calling his name but didn't come out because "dad said it's all for the show!"
3. The boy was getting sick on two news programs because his nerves are shot.
2.Families history and need for media exposure.
1. No tears during the interviews. Dad acted like he was going to cry but no tears came!

Certified hoax!

They were in it for the money

I ask all of you to check out the boys youtube video. It is deplorable! I hope someone forwards the rap video to a qualified CPS worker as this is a clear case of child endangerment, child abuse and lessons in how NOT to raise a child. 3 of them, 10, 9 and 6 are using vile words that only an adult could put into a song like this. and then to cap it off by these boys throwing the bird to the camera, using vile language and other quite disturbing things children should not be taught, let alone do on a video.
Once again the parents are to blame for all this. These boys need to go to Foster Care as soon as humanly possible!
Thank you Richard Heece for allowing us to look into your warped life, if it wasn't for the Helium filled balloon that matches the helium filled area where your brain should have been, the public would have never known the discusting way you raise your unruly children!

During the press conference with the sheriff this afternoon, he stated that the family called the FAA, followed by a local news station, then finally, 911. Why would they call 911 last? That does not make any sense at all...unless you are creating a "show".

Also, I'd really love to see a full version of the "home video" of the balloon being launched. So far, all I've seen is a short clip of it with no audio.

Harvey.....Richard's 911 call claims the "flying saucer" emits 1 million volts once every 5 minutes.......have officials checked this balloon 4 electronic equipment......if none exist then that goes a long way 2the validity of this possible hoax.

This guy was more concerned with describing his invention...and his son "verified" that he was in the balloon. (They could have looked back at the video to see he wasn't in there.) Then he stops to see "who the hell is calling" him?!?!?

I believe that this incident was a failed publicity stunt and I pray that the State and local officials in their area sues them for the bill...sick and tired of all these wack jobs making $$$ off of honest taxpayers-geeze especially 911 c'mon people
