ESPN Benches Bob Griese for 'Taco' Crack

10/26/2009 9:35 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Can anyone at ESPN keep a job? The network suspended Bob Griese today for a racist remark he made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya.

While he was calling Saturday's Minnesota-Ohio State game, Griese made a crack about Montoya saying he was "out having a taco." Montoya is Colombian.

ESPN is yanking Griese off the air for one week, and a rep for the network says Griese "understands the comment was inappropriate."

Yesterday ESPN fired baseball analyst Steve Phillips after news broke of his sex scandal with a production assistant.

(24) i don't even know what your comment has to do with anything.

(25) Campy- I hope to God you are kidding, because...well I just hope you are kidding.

Whats more egregious than the comment is ESPNs reaction. Fire someone for consensual sex but suspend the announcer who broadcasts racism over sunday afternoon family tv?? This is directly job related. Your mouth and its content is your job. The other guy gets canned for what he was doing in private??

So ESPN finds consensual sex worse than racism against Latins. Well we see that they have their priorities straight.

Funny how ESPN forced out Rush Limbaugh for mereley SUGGESTING a media bias towards an average QB (McNabb) but only SUSPENDS this guy for a clearly derrogatory (though funny) comment. Personally, as a foreign born Hispanic myself, I am not offended by this--we all need to grow up as a society and stop being OFFENDED over stupid comments anyway; Montoya isn't--and they don't define WHO we are as human beings...
