'Office Space' Star: Yo Wikipedia, I'm Not Gay!

12/5/2009 7:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Ron Livingston -- the guy who played Peter in "Office Space" -- is sick and tired of someone constantly changing his Wikipedia page to say he's in a gay relationship ... and now he's suing to make the rumors stop.

Ron -- who married a woman earlier this year -- claims some mystery Internet bandit began relentlessly changing his Wiki page to say he's in a relationship with a man named Lee Dennison ... a claim Livingston says is completely false and "malicious."

According to the lawsuit, filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, the Wiki-hacking began back in May -- and every time Ron's reps remove the false info from his Wiki page ... the bandit "changes them back almost immediately."

And it gets better: Ron believes the perp also created fake Facebook profiles for himself and Lee, and both pages claim the two are "In a relationship" with each other.

Livingston is suing for libel, invasion of privacy and for using his name and likeness without his permission. Damages haven't been specified.

Serious defamation? Why?

Would it be serious defamation to call him black, asian or another 'minority' group?

Why gay?

I believe that whoever carried out these heinous crimes is a very BAD person and that he or she should spend no less than 5 to 10 years in a Federal "pound me in the ass" prison!

True or not, Wikipedia is user controlled, I hope the judge tosses it. And by the way, because Wikipedia is user controlled, it is impossible to "hack" it. Whoever has been writing stories for TMZ lately needs to go back to school and re-learn a few things. Proper grammar and spelling would probably be a good place to start.

Josie, you need to take a reading comprehension course. I didn't say that being gay is an insult. I said that most women don't insult men by calling them gay. There are plenty of men who will call each other gay just to be insulting. Most women are accepting of gays, that's probably why we don't hurl the term around as an insult.

As for your claim that women "use all kinds of tricks", it has nothing to do with my post but for some reason you're trying to make a link.

Livingston has a case. You might think he should "get a life", but that's probably because you don't have much of one and you can't comprehend how cyber harassment or defamation can hurt a person's career. The problem is you, "hon", not me or Livingston. Educate yourself.

Btw, if you don't know who he is, then you've obviously never seen the film "Office Space" or the many episodes of Sex and the City in which he played Berger, Carrie's boyfriend. Maybe you never see films or don't know how to operate your TV.

Carriss, I wonder if your opinion would change if someone posted a Wikipedia page about you, with your real name, and said that you are HIV positive but you're not. And each time you removed the info someone inserted it back into the page. Would you think it OK simply because Wikipedia is user-controlled, even if the info had the potential to damage you or your career? Don't you think that some of the laws about defamation and harassment should extend into the cyber realm?

THINK, people.

Oh, Christ! Another Tom Cruise. I guess Livingston hasn't figured out that the best way to fuel speculation is to sue someone for saying you're gay. Why else would you be so oversensitive about your sexuality? Why else would you monitor your own Wikipedia entry so carefully that you actually know how often it's changed? I agree with several of the other bloggers: he needs to get a life. (BTW: Is there something wrong with being gay?)

the truth hurts huh

Wish the day would come soon when being accused of being gay is NOT considered a "MALICIOUS" statement. False - ok. But NOT malicious.

Matt, OMG harvey really is gay?! i've read several comments on this board saying he is but i just thought someone was just trying to be funny.

jezzy, martin, etc...there's nothing wrong with being straight either and we are just as proud to be that way as you are of being gay. i for one am proud to be straight and wouldn't appreciate someone spreading gossip about me saying otherwise. we all know there are some gay people that pretend to be straight, but i've never heard of ANY straight people pretending to be gay

to the poster that asked if he would be offended if someone called him black asian or what ever; how does that even compare? you can look at him and see he's white a little harder to tell if he's gay. if he's gay and married to a woman, i'd say that's shame on him. but since he's married and someone else is saying hes gay, shame on them.

Creepy someone is doing that to him. Completely irritating, I'm sure. But I'm not sure it should qualify as actionable defamation. Because there's absolutely nothing wrong with being gay. Could a gay person get relief in court for being called straight? Could a person sue for being identified as being the wrong race?

Anyway . . . if he were gay, I'd do him in a second.

toldja, it's only your opinion that there's nothing wrong with being gay. There are plenty of people on the planet who think that it's grossly abnormal and even worthy of treatment. That's one reason why gays are protected against discrimination in the U.S.

You could say there's nothing wrong with being HIV positive or having herpes or some other STD, but if you didn't have any of these conditions and someone was harassing you by announcing the world that you did, do you think you should have any recourse? I do.
