Murphy Sick and Vomiting Just Before She Died

12/21/2009 2:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brittany MurphyBrittany Murphy was very ill in the hours before she went into cardiac arrest and died, sources tell TMZ.

We're told Murphy was taking prescription meds for flu-like symptoms she had been experiencing for several days. We're told Murphy began vomiting early Sunday morning and told family members she was feeling very ill.

Sources say various prescriptions were found in the home -- written for Brittany Murphy, husband Simon Monjack, and Brittany's mom. One source says, "There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house."

Law enforcement sources tell us Murphy collapsed in the bathroom and somehow ended up in the shower ... there was, we're told, a significant amount of vomit in the immediate area.

We're also told authorities did not find illegal drugs in the house, but Murphy was definitely taking various prescription meds.

Sources say her condition and the meds could have triggered a heart attack, but it's too early to know. An autopsy will be performed Monday or Tuesday. We reported earlier Monjack did not want an autopsy but ultimately it's the Coroner's call.

Brittany MurphyAs we first reported, Brittany Murphy's mother told paramedics her daughter suffered from diabetes. We're told it was type 2 diabetes and people involved in the case doubt her condition caused her death.

Correction

Couple things--first of all, the cause of Type 2 Diabetes is unknown, but people who are overweight have a greater chance of developing it (they also have a greater chance of developing a number of other illnesses, but that doesn't mean being overweight CAUSES the illnesses).

People can develop Type 2 Diabetes if they have a family history of diabetes and/or if they already have problems with their body in the metabolism of glucose.

All of these comments about "lots" of prescription drugs and so on are just ridiculous, because they clearly stated in the article that the prescriptions were for three different people--Brittany, her husband, and her mother.

Someone with diabetes AND flu-like symptoms is going to have "a lot" of prescriptions around compared to an average, healthy person. Add to that the two other people in the house with prescription drugs, and you've got "a lot" as well.

So get off your high horses and stop with the rumor-mongering. TMZ is being EXTREMELY irresponsible.

You don't have to be overweight to get diabetes. It just increases your risk. FFS I'm taking a glucose test tomorrow for gestational diabetes and I wouldn't be considered overweight at my current weight even if I wasn't pregnant. There's lots of other risk factors (genetics) or conditions (pregnancy, drugs, cancer) that can lead to DM2...obesity is just the most common.

Also, H1N1 does not cause heart attacks...but combining the wrong medications might. Stop contributing to the H1N1 hysteria.

How come NO ONE is talking about the fact that she was "rail" thin & had been for years....but expecially thin when she recently resigned from her latest movie!! This young woman was not "made" that way (see Clueless & films shortly after that)...she became that way due to ONCE AGAIN Hollywood pressures to be "too" thin...Let's face it...Brittany although a wonderful actress in my opinion...became "fashions favorite photo op" when she became hanger like in appearance...it is very very seductive to have all the best designers call you to wear thier dresses ONLY becuase you are skinny. Brittany KNEW this kind of attention would help her career. PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE!!!!This young woman had a heart attack due to anorexia issues...anyone who says different is lying. Women's most common heart attack symptom are chest pain or discomfort. But women are more likely to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain.....sounds like the Flu doesn't it?!! When an anorexic experiences these types of symptoms they commonly seek to cure the symptom not the cause....which is EXACTLY what Brittany did, not to mention Anorexics often feel like S_ _ T most of the time anyway. I recently saw photo's of her at a cafe drinking (not eating) tea. Sounds mundane to most, but a well known diaretic to those that need to stay a double zero. Also, the fact that her husband did not want an autopsy is another indication that she was "suffering" from anorexia...a coroner would find the results on her body of this. A 32 year old woman does not die of a heart attack, unless there are overt issues, such as genetic or family history. This is a sad sad loss...poor Brittany, she must have been in suffering for some time, both physically & mentally. God rest her soul.

Jenny, you are a damn idiot. Being overweight is not the only cause for type 2 diabetes. Grow a brain and do some research before showing the world what a complete moron you are.

233. People do not go to the ER just for vomiting. Vomiting is usually a self limiting condition and not an emergency unless it is accompanied by other symptoms like pain or fever or is prolonged or you know you have taken something you should not have taken.

Really? I had to take my daughter to the hospital because she was vomiting so much. I spoke with the Dr. and he was concerned about her becoming dehydrated, sure enough when we got to the hospital she was dehydrated and they had to give her fluids and Phenergran to stop the vomiting both through an IV.

The complications of Diabetes, type 1 and 2 are many. One item often checked by doctors is for the possibility of "Silent Ischemia" One could be having a heart attack without any warning pain, due to a compromised nervous system.

Jenny, I have Type2 diabetes and I'm not fat. You don't have to be overweight to have this, they are other contributing factors also.

cut out my eyes!!!

"
Type 2 diabetes

is caused from being overweight. Type 1 an autoimmune disease. So I doubt she had diabetes."

Jenny, your obviously far from being a doctor. You can be normal weight and still a type 2. I'm of normal weight and am a class 2 diabetic. You pancreas might not produce enough insulin or your body might have built up an insulin resistance like in my case.

Do some reading before you make a dumb ass assumption.

TMZ, does it make you feel strong and powerful to harp on the perscription drugs that were in the hosue. If they were not illegal what does it have to do with you. You are becoming more evil all of the time.

I would bet that OXYCONTIN (oxycodone) is present in Brittany Murphys autopsy findings... Celebrities love this stuff cuz they can work alot, lose weight, and get it from their "doctor". Bad thing is.... too much of it with the wrong mix and you DIE! Britt showed the classic signs of someone doing this stuff. Why doesn't her husband want an autopsy on the unknown cause of his wifes death? Unless he already knows the authorties will find an overdose of oxy and other drugs in her system....you'll see!

"There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house."

Um I have a lot of prescriptions in my pocket book alone. Doesn't mean I can OD on them. Not all prescription meds are bad, duh.

Jenny, Type 2 diabetes is not caused by being overweight. Obesity is a strong risk factor for Type 2 diabetes, but there are skinny people that can have Type 2 diabetes. It depends on genetics, diet, exercise, etc. Here is a link http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/diabetes-causes so that you can educate yourself on diabetes
