Brittany Murphy -- Frantic Rescue Effort

12/22/2009 4:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Brittany Murphy Brittany Murphy's husband and mother made a frantic attempt to revive her before paramedics arrived ... this according to notes written by an investigator from the L.A. County Coroner's office. And, there were a shocking number of strong prescription meds on Brittany's nightstand.

TMZ has reviewed the documents, written by Investigator Blacklock. According to his notes, Brittany Murphy "had been complaining of shortness of breath and severe abdominal pain" for 7 to 10 days prior to her death. According to the notes, Murphy went into the bathroom at around 7:30 AM Sunday and shut the door.

A half hour later Brittany's mother, Sharon Murphy, went to check on her daughter, opened the bathroom door and "discovered the decedent lying on the floor unresponsive." According to the notes, Sharon yelled for help. Brittany's husband, Simon Monjack, who was in bed, heard the screams and ran to the bathroom.

According to the notes, Sharon called 911 and Simon "attempted to revive the decedent by placing her in the shower and running the water."

The notes continue -- "The decedent remained unresponsive and purged her stomach contents prior to the arrival of the paramedics."

When the paramedics arrived, Brittany was "without signs of life."

Paramedics moved Brittany from the bathroom to the master bedroom, where they found a slew of prescription drugs -- "A check of the nightstands revealed large amounts of prescription medication in the decedent's name. Also noted were numerous empty prescription medication bottles in the decedent's husband's name, the decedent's mother's name and unidentified third party names."

According to the notes, the medications included Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and miscellaneous vitamins.

The notes say, "No alcohol containers, paraphernalia or illegal drugs were discovered."

According to the notes, "The night prior to her death, the decedent had consumed some noodles, leftover Thai food, Gatorade, water and tea with lemon."

The notes also say Brittany had a history of hypoglycemia and was hospitalized in April 2009 for low blood sugar while on location in Oregon."

Monjack told the investigator during the 7 to 10 days prior to her death, Brittany complained of shortness of breath and severe abdominal pains but he was not overly alarmed because "she often suffered from severe menstrual pains."

Brittany MurphyThe investigator spoke with police at the scene, who told him "foul play is not suspected."

When you check drugs.com for drug interactions you'll see that there's a ton of interactions between all these meds. Granted she might not have been taking all these meds but the two that cause a major reaction are carbamazepine and clarithromycin which when taken together can cause according to the site, GENERALLY AVOID: Some macrolide antibiotics can significantly increase serum carbamazepine levels. The mechanism is probably inhibition of hepatic CYP450 3A4 isoenzymes. Severe carbamazepine toxicity has been reported.

So just a thought.

The shortness of breath is one of the symptoms of H1N1.

The med that stands out to me is DEFINITELY Biaxin. Could be a severe reaction to the antibiotic. The fact she has the antibiotic suggests she was using it, as you are supposed to finish it for best results. I have had a serious reaction before and had to discontinue it. Severe side effects include vomiting, severe diarrhea (sound familiar?), difficulty breathing.

I have a few friends who also had a horrible reaction to this med.

What it means, nvcc, is that Brittany puked before dying. To the very first poster - her appendix did not burst - her organs have apparently passed visual inspection, they would have caught that.

Vicoprofen AND Hydrodone together? Either one works for you or it doesn't, you should not take both of these at the same time. Same with the benzo class - Klonopin & Ativan. Both primarily for anxiety but using both is overkill, especially on top of either Vicoprofin or Hydrocodone! Add in the rest and it's no wonder the girl had trouble breathing! Deaths door was knocking for a week! With propanolol and fluoxetine there is an increased risk of heart function changes. How utterly sad. I am seriously disgusted!

Let this be a lesson to everyone, celebrities included - stop eating your prescription medicine like it's candy and make sure you have a doctor that will TREAT YOU PROPERLY and not just APPEASE you. You don't think you can drop dead from even minor script abuse but you can.

TOPAMAX????? Why is that familiar??? ANNA NICOLE SMITH!!

Perhaps all of it is innocent, and she had H1NI, lets see what the toxicology reports reveal.

I think we are all aware that H1N1 is a killer flu and does not discriminate due to age, she could have contracted the virus.
If it was not H1NI then it was inappropriate mixing of meds.

Let's see what the tox report says before we accuse the girl of being what we suspect she may have been...'' eating disorder, Topamax...''....Another Hollywood statistic.

I have a large amount of pills near my bed vicodin, dilaudid, darvacet, valium, flexeril and various anti inflammatory. I also have some empty bottles. Just because they are there it doesn't mean I take them. In fact I don't take any of them I only take Tylenol now.

Doctors give you different medications to see what will work. It doesn't mean they were trying to appease a druggy. With my situation my pain level was at varying degrees at different times. I wasn't taking all these medications at once. It was a span of almost 2 years.

You don't know what her situation was. Just because all those bottles are there it doesn't mean she was taking all those meds.

?It's really?
Russian online newspaper gazeta.ru reported that several hours before she died, Brittany Murphy attended a VIP party in Rublevka, a luxury suburb outside of Moscow. Milla Jovovich and other celebrities were also at attendance, according to gazeta.ru.

The newspaper reported that Russian banker and entertainer Igor Desyatnikov hosted the party at his Rublyovka estate. Desyatnikov is producing several films in the US, including "You and I", starring Mischa Barton. Several high profile guests, including model Sasha Pivovarova, allegedly confirmed that Murphy attended the party.

Brittany Murphy died 12 hours after leaving Moscow. It takes about 10 to 12 hours to get to Los Angeles from Moscow by private jet.

Actually those medications are not all the uncommon for someone who suffers from bad migraines and anxiety, which often go together. Doctors do prescribe some of those drugs in combination. My medicine chest isn't quite that bad -- she has some redundant stuff like Klonopin *and* Ativan, and two types of painkillers. But honestly, I've got prednisone, vicodin, topamax, valium, and propranolol here -- all prescribed. I'm not a movie star, and I have a very well-respected doctor. Healthy people don't always understand. Propranolol is also used for stagefright.

@Just The Facts

Maybe you should transfer to a better school or study harder. Carbamazepine is used to treat diabetes INSIPIDUS rather than diabetes MELLITUS. Diabetes insipidus is rare, but is treated with carbamazepine, hydrochlorothiazide, or desmopressin.

... and for what it's worth, the closest I've come to dying was a bad reaction to Biaxin. Such reactions tend to kick in between the 7th and 10th day.

Higher truths

so that's what you call a slew of drugs?
Wow, myself or my mom can make you blush..having injuries and illnesses and all.

Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory),
Fluoxetine (depression med),
Klonopin (anxiety med),
Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med)
Ativan (anxiety med),
Vicoprofen (pain reliever),
Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic),
Hydrocodone (pain med)
..so that's two antidepressants, normally done to control depression,
two pains meds, different ways of working,
she was a diabetic so carbemezine would have done that and diabetics often suffer periphereral pain...blood pressure med, something for migraines ( which a lot of people suffer from) and an antibiotic and OH! supplements..

Please call in the armchair jurists.

Nothing to see here people, move along.

It is disgusting how celebrities are treated in death, always with drugs allegations the first thing suggested in the media and morons who love to gossip. Has anyone ever died in Hollywood of natural causes? Answer yes. Big deal and she was not really a power star but we will be hammered with this story mercilessly for a few months until family members can clear up her now tainted reputation.

Get a life people and quit destroying the lives of people that you do not know nor ever will.

does anyone ever stop to think that the pressure some of these famous people are under is not normal and that we should all back down a little give them some space and let them live there lives, question why has she seemed to drop out of the public eye? why is her mom in the same houe? maybe she really was have medicl issues to need some of those drugs maybe she wan't taking them for fun...if you have ever know people suffering for bi polor disorders or deppression or and of the other physcological problems they take lots of drugs to seem normal.... maybe we as humans forget that they are normal people put in high stress situations and having people follow there every move that they deserve to go crazy and paranoid...let the dead rest wait for the truth and the talk don't accuse before knowing why...yes she could have died for to many meds but where some needed or was she abusing them is anothe question...put your self in her family shoes let them morn let the grieve and be respectful because if it where someone you know you would talk the way you do.....

My guess is she was being treated for Bipolar Disorder.

Whether she really had the Disorder is a different story.

The seizure meds, anxiety and depression meds all suggest this.

Some scripts could have been months old and some more recent even with the same doctor changing them if the first combo didn't relieve her symptoms.

If the drugs contibuted to her death it doesn't sound like a doctor's fault.

Wat?

Interesting that the druggie husband put his unconscious wife in the shower...isn't that what people do to try and help someone who is OD'ing?
