@eyeroll - Obviously you are not a follower of Conan. So therefore you didn't know when Conan took the Late Night show on the road, there was a huge DEMAND for tickets. Go look up those episodes where he went to Chicago and San Francisco. Hell, I live in Southern California and tried to get tickets to the San Francisco tapings, and it was IMPOSSIBLE.

Have you seen the Conan fan pages? We are loyal, dedicated bunch. He will have absolutely no problem selling tickets to his shows. Again, it wasn't about Conan ratings... I have no clue why some people doesn't understand that. NBC wanted to keep everyone, including Conan. But they wanted to screw over him and the Tonight Show legacy. Heck, if this show does go down, a bunch of us are already planning to road trip to the show from CA.

And yes, "classy" is one of the first words that I would describe his departure. The man loves his staff and his fans. Leno's entrance back to the show? Not classy at all. I mean, the man didn't even TRY to contact Conan when this was all going down. How classy is that?? Not so much. The Tonight Show is dead. Leno killed it.

@wellington Business? So how come you are forgetting that during Leno's first 2 years of him hosting the Tonight Show, he was in worst shape (ratings wise) than Conan was. NBC still gave him a chance. So it's not fair that they didn't give Conan a chance to find his niche within the Tonight Show.

And Genius part: the way he interacts with guests, the way he pushes the envelope with sketches and segments. His ability to think outside the box, his comedic timing and improv, his wittiness, his way of making something gone wrong into comedic gold, along with others. The Masturbating Bear was an example of low-brow Comedy Conan used to put random silliness in the amidst of a structured show. Sure, the bear was random but he wasn't on the show all the time, so using him as an example to represent all the awesome things Conan has done is useless.

Hope he's not going to cry boo hoo hoo during his comedy routine about how unfair NBC was to him, because most Americans are sick of the top 1% crying about their wows. A lot of people have lost their jobs and they didn't take home a $30 million goodbye package.

Jay instantly rescued the Tonight Show as soon as he returned, which means Zucker isn't going anywhere. I bet Fox is seriously reconsidering picking up Conan after seeing those numbers. Fact is, Jay will always dominate anyone who challenges him in late-night.

Untrue. Leno was second to Letterman the first 90 weeks, but Leno was still making a profit being second. Being second does not put a show in a financial hole, or how else could Letterman survive being second to Leno for 14 years. Conan's ratings were SO bad that the show was losing money for the network. That had never happened before in the history of the Tonight Show. Conan had a show on the same network for 17 years, so where were all his fans when he when to 11:35? Leno basically kept the same numbers at 10 but that isn't good enough for prime time. Leno was also up against multimillion dollar shows plus the other networks were sabotaging him by not letting their stars appear on the 10:00 show. Despite all this Leno still had over twice the number of viewers that Conan had. So Leno didn't lose views while Conan did--he even lost in the younger demo.

I watched Conan for years, and IMO he's not as funny as he used to be, and IMO that's been true the last couple years. He started relying on formula and tired gags. He even started making fun of the audience when they didn't laugh the way he wanted them to. On top of that his interviews became more and more focused on himself. He constantly tried to top his guest if that person said or did anything funny. A good interviewer tries to make the person he's interviewing shine and not himself.

I will say he's the best when he's adlibing. I think one of his funniest bits was when he went out to dinner with that pompous staffer who fancied him self a gourmet. I've thought for some time that he needed new writers. Many of the bits they were in were just annoying and very unfunny.

If people want to pay to see him, that's fine. Hopefully he'll bring something new to the table and get out of his well worn rut.

First off, in response to your part of your post, I do have to agree that the segment of his dinner with Jordan was aboslutely hilarious. I love watching that video over and over again.

But Conan had very awful lead ins. They can drastically impact your show, like it did with the Conan Era of the Tonight Show. Leno suffered, therefor Conan suffered. NBC were expecting the numbers to be low during Conan's first year. It would be a different story if told Conan goodbye but they still wanted to keep him. But Conan gracefully walked away. It's a known fact that the first year for any new program/host is not going to have major ratings. Leno was in major hot water during his first year. I think what Conan fans are most pissed off is that NBC did not give Conan a chance. 7 months is not enough to get comfortable in a new time slot. We are also most pissed off at were Leno's lies. He should have kept his word. Any way you look at, Leno is washed out. He had the chance to walk away but he didn't.

Here's also a great play by play for the Oprah interview with Leno: http://blogs.kansascity.com/tvbarn/2010/01/oprahjay.html

I don't buy the lead in excuse. Are Conan fans really trying to say they didn't watch Conan because they didn't watch Jay? Come on. If that's true are you going to say Conan did well on Late Night because Jay was #1 and his lead in?

The lead in issue had to do with the local news because they depend on people watching by osmosis. Are you saying the same about Conan? That's not exactly flattering to him.

I think Conan manipulated his fans to get sympathy and is playing the victim card. This the same guy who didn't mind Leno getting victimized by NBC if it benefited him. If you can't see that, then there's no help for it.

Let Conan tell his fans how he manipulated and demanded to get the Tonight Show in the first place. He's not man enough to level about it.
Conan did anything but gracefully leave. He acted out for more than a week and then on the final show threw a bouquet to NBC. He probably was advised he was scaring off potential employers and he had better make nice on his last show. He also has a deal to produce a show for NBC which could also account for his swan song about face.

Better Than You

I simply just don't care who's more POPULAR in the Jay vs Conan battle.

I only know who's more original, and funnier, and that it Conan O'Brien.

Jay Leno gets more people to watch him? Whooptee doo! More people also dine on pure garbage at McDonalds, than a nice filet mignon at Morton's. I'll take Morton's and Conan, thank you very much.
