Farrah Fawcett Forgotten at Oscars

3/8/2010 10:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Farrah FawcettFarrah Fawcett did not make the cut for this year's In Memoriam tribute during last night's Academy Awards telecast ... leaving many scratching their heads.

Despite appearing in such classics as "Sunburn," "Saturn 3," "The Cannonball Run" and "Dr. T and the Women," Fawcett was passed over for more household names ... like Michael Jackson.

An Academy spokesperson told the AP, "Every year it's an unfortunate reality that we can't include everybody."

Did any of you idiots see The Apostle with Robert Duvall? He handpicked Farrah for that role........she was brilliant. That's a movie. How about her Broadway performance, and TV performance of A Burning Bed? That was one of the most critically acclaimed performances in our time? For you dumbwads to say she was only a TV star shows how shallow your minds run..........only through the TV. Not much else.

Shame on the Academy Awards. She was not only on TV, but also was in Movies. Farrah was an Icon. She was just as important as anyone else that was remembered. Someone dropped the ball here. I personally would have more respect for them,if they owned up to the mistake, instead of making excuses. For those of us, that grew up with Farrah, she will never be forgotten...

The group "was kind of figuring that probably the Farrah Fawcett and Gene Barry omissions would be the ones we'd get the most comments on," he said. He acknowledged that he "did get one letter about Miss Fawcett."

The academy director said "an unusual number of extremely distinguished screenwriters'' died this year, and the academy tried to honour many of them in the short memorial segment.

"In every category, you're going to miss some wonderful people,'' said Davis, who has helped assemble Oscar's In Memoriam montage since it began in 1993.

When asked why Michael Jackson was included when actors were left out, Davis explained that Jackson had appeared in a popular theatrical film recently. Fawcett and Jackson both died on June 25.

"Think of all the blogging we would have gotten if we had left him out!" he said.

Still, he said he understands that the Fawcett and Barry omissions sting.

"There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all,'' Davis said. "They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it.''

Farrah appeared in 19 movies according to wikipedia, and Jackson appeared in 7. And the excuse that he was recently in a popular movie doesn't really make sense because they honor people who haven't been in a movie for 50 years who died last year. Then they said Farrah was mostly known as a T.V. star. Well Jackson is mostly known as a singer. Aside from releasing "This is it" after he died, the only movie he had a major part in was "The Wiz". I think they both deserved to be honored and it is unfortunate that She was not.

Scandalous that Farrah Fawcett is not in the evening Oscars and nevertheless she had her place there because she had made of the cinema as the television and what Mickael Jackson who made no movies is there!

Aren't the oscars a venue to award, and bring attention to all the talented actors out there? I think about Heath Ledger, whose presence in the acting community left an imprint in the mind of all the world. As I remember, his memory was NOT forgotten at last years oscars. I guess what I want to remind everyone of is this: Farrah should have been recognized at the oscars, far more than Heath Ledger. Just because her death wasnt "shocking" or "tragic" in the same way that Heath's was, but she was just as good, if not a better actor, and she had definately earned her way into the hearts of the public. I truly believe her family and friends deserved to be reminded by the acting community just how loved she was, and that's why I find it inexcusable that they said nothing about her at this years oscars. I mean no disrespect to Heath Ledger, I simply used his situation, and all the recognition he recieved last year, to prove my point about how unfair they were to Farrah.
