Corey Haim Collapsed, Prescriptions Found

3/10/2010 11:46 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Corey Haim DiesCorey Haim collapsed in the bedroom of his mother's apartment and four prescription bottles were found nearby ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We've learned Corey had been sick the last couple of days with flu-like symptoms. The medications recovered, however, were not related to his illness, sources tell TMZ.

We're told no illicit drugs were found in the apartment.

Sources say Haim got out of bed just before 1 AM and collapsed in front of his mother. She called 911 at 12:53 AM and Corey was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 AM.

Corey's mom told authorities he had been battling prescription drug addiction for years.

Authorities believe -- though are not certain -- Corey died of an accidental drug overdose.

UPDATE: We're told the LAPD has wrapped up their preliminary investigation and it's now in the coroner's hands.

REALLY Mr. Hadder? "Who cares?" Obviously a lot of people care. Incidentally, if you don't care, why did you take the time to read the article AND comment on it? Another human being died, I assure you, SOMEONE cares.

TMZ, you should really wait before you report that a drug overdose killed someone. You were wrong with Brittany Murphy, too.

It depends on what you read or what do you want to read. Double standards can go both ways. Here's a comment posted a few hours ago on ABC:

Wow, not sure what is sadder....a person with a drug addiction who loses their life or people who can't even muster a little sympathy for them after they're gone. He made his choices and paid a price for them. Funny how Michael Jackson can do drugs and be accused of heinous crimes and we make him a hero and have tributes for him. Correy dies and we just call him a loser and say he deserved it. Apparently it's not about drug use about your level of stardom. I personally enjoyed him in his early movies and feel bad that he got himself stuck in a bad place he couldn't ever seem to get out of. Hopefully he finds some peace now away from the haters.

this story reminds me, when i was given an antidepressant after not being able to leave the house without feeling ill due to anxiety, just the one tablet after only 6hrs made me collapse unconscious, had to get someone to drag me to the car and get me home, i fell asleep eventually but got up in the morning feeling ill again and was found by my mum also collapsed again in the hallway, not fun, didn't take anything again till a year later luckily that didn't effect me like the first one, the one that worked for me was an older antidepressant, (i'm still not ok but feel better when i exercise and sleep normal hours) it seems the newer antidepressants have more people committing suicide, why?, makes me wonder if the government just doesn't care and it's less money to spend on these people if they are not around, that's how it looks. The doctors and pharmaceutical companies really need to stop thinking about the money and start looking at these things, can't understand either why people are given a multitude of diffent psychiatric drugs to take at the same time with doctors more times than not upping the dose if it's not working, it's just an accident waiting to happen. Are they really worth giving out to people as they do?, everyone should get councelling first and it should be freely available to all and government funded, where are the priorities in this world?

Not sure why celebrities are publicly tweeting their hurt and desire to have reached out to him before he lost his battle to drugs. However, too little, too late doesn't begin to describe their "concern." Grieve in private if you were truly close and don't be an opportunist now that his days are over.

I'm just saying.

"Law enforcement contacts" reports "4 bottles of prescriptions, all unrelated to Haim's illness". Tell us what the drugs were! I'm thinking 2 anti-depressants + 1 sleep & 1 pain. If there's only 1 anti-depressant, the 4th might be a wake-up. What makes people think prescription drugs are any better than illegal drugs? Their constantly 'evolving' chemistry has led to substances with unpredictable side-effects, & more difficult to be weaned off of than any illegal drug ever was. How ironic: Corey might be alive now if he'd been waking up w/coke & going to sleep w/pot.
