Slipknot 911 -- 'Hypodermic Needle Next to His Bed'

5/26/2010 4:10 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The hotel employee who discovered the body of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray on Monday told the 911 operator he noticed a hypodermic needle and a bottle of pills in the musician's hotel room when he found the body.

In the 911 call, obtained by TMZ, the employee -- a maintenance worker at the Iowa hotel -- tells the operator that he suspects Paul died of a "drug overdose" and that it appeared that Paul had been in the room for "a while."

The employee also told the 911 operator that Paul's mother had called the hotel earlier in the day because she couldn't get a hold of her son.

Cops are still investigating Paul's death. Officials have stated that the death doesn't appear to be the result of foul play.

911 Operator

I guess I just have to stop reading these comments about how the dispatcher was. You just don't get it! Until you sit in the chair you will never know what goes on.

To all those saying that they have no sympathy because it was due to drugs, He was trying to quit he went to rehab three times and moved state to get away from drug contacts in 2008 he stated that he been been clean a couple of years, so its not like he was just shooting up without a care.

Wow, that guy should maybe find a different job...I have never heard a 911 dispatcher take so long to enter in an address, actually ask for a phone number, and then repeat the same question more than once. Speed it up, bud, you're dealing with emergencies.

To the poster below: His track record speaks for itself. Hes been busted for drugs in the past and was a heavy user. Sure miagraines med my ass. Admit was a freaking junkie.
Its not going to bring him back defending him.

THERE ARE MEDICINAL DRUGS ADMINISTERED BY NEEDLE! Diabetics...migraine meds...why don't y'all just stop feeding the insane rumor mills and wait for the facts to come out before you all deem this man a drug addict and a POS!

YOU ALL FAIL AS BADLY AS THAT 911 OPERATOR! Shameful.

This can't be real. I keep telling myself, there is no way this can be real. From what I call, you don't just answer a 911 call half asleep saying "911", you usually get something along the lines of "This is 911 what is your emergency?" And I remember the old Rescue 911 T.V. show, and back in 1995 and earlier, not all dispachers had computers capeable of bringing up a location, but we are in 2010 now!!! And if the maintenance man at the hotel found someone lifeless, smart thing would be to go to the front desk where there was more information. How would you not know the "business phone number?" YOU WORK THERE, you are an employee of the hotel!!!! I don't believe for one second that this is a real tape.

Since the first time I heard it I stared thinking the same thing as Ivy, either it's fake or both the 911 dispatcher and the maintenance guy are a pair of jackasses

WOW...I would hate to have to call the 911 center in IA, talking about taking you sweet ass time... and i seen a comment on here were someone mentioned Paul was a **** bag from a **** bag band???..maybe you should had googled slipknot before making that comment...because... if i can sell as many records and go on tour as much as they do and make as much money as they do... im all about being a ****bag....in a ****bag band... especially the worldwide recognition slipknot has... yea boi total **** bags.... he probaly died with more money in his pocket than you make in 2 months....and someone makes the comment i never heard him but good riddance ... i love how posting little comments on the internet makes people who have been picked on all there life 10ft tall and bullet proof...and they get off on the thought of thinking they are a internet badass...because we all know you and know one would have the sack to go tell that to his family or anyones family in this situation.... RIP Paul..thanks for the memories

THE DISPATCHER WAS FOLLOWING PROTOCOL. YOU ASK THE QUESTION AND THEN VERIFY IT AGAIN. HE WAS EFFING DEAD, YOU CAN'T BRING HIM BACK. THE DISPATCHER WAS CALM AND COOL. THE MAINTINANCE MAN DIDN'T WANT TO TOUCH HIM. WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE DISPATCH WHILE HE IS ASKING QUESTIONS. GO SIT IN YOUR LOCAL COMM CENTER SOMETIME IF YOU THINK YOU CAN DO A BETTER JOB. YOU CAN ALL FO F YOURSELVES!

The 911 operator doesn't seem to be very good at his job. Acts way too mellow for his position.

Okay 911 operator we understand he was already dead and nothing could be done. The actual 911 operator did not know that though. And more than halfway into the call he proves it when he ask "He is definitely beyond any help then?" In his position it is good to be calm and collected, but a little urgency should play a part too. Trying to save lives here not order pizzas.
