Roman Polanski Won't Be Extradited to U.S.

7/12/2010 7:47 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0712_polanski_getty_BNThe Swiss government has denied a United States extradition request for Roman Polanski.

The Justice Ministry said Monday in a statement that national interests were taken into consideration in the decision, and that Polanski was now a free man

Roman pled guilty in 1978 to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl, but fled to France before he could be sentenced.

UPDATE: According to L.A. Superior Court spokesperson Allan Parachini, "The original Polanski case remains pending. The Los Angeles Superior Court arrest warrant from 1978 remains outstanding."

What else could the Swiss do since the US rejected them from seeing old case papers for their final decision on extradition. Typical US procedure... "You give him to us because we are the US, Don't pay attention to what the old court case papers say."

The girl's mother can still be charged with child endangerment.

This news is just disgusting. This man got away with raping a child and fleeing the country on top of that.Wonder how much money he offered the Swiss for his freedom? Money always talks even if you destroy someones life in the process.Really hope Karma pays him a visit. I heard the victim didn't want him in prison either, wonder how much he paid her too?

Maybe some sex offenders will soon be leaving the US. I say we raise money if the sex offender can't afford the plane ticket. I will buy them one.

Ok, Swiss did this because they did not think the US would do anything to them.
Now lets see what the US is really willing to do.

Roman Polanski has indeed suffered but why is that relevant to the fact that he raped a 13 year old girl when he was over 40? I remember the case well and there was NO doubt that he committed this crime. If he had faced justice at the time, he would have received a very light sentence (because of his status in LA) and that would have been the end of the incident. He chose to run instead of being a man and facing his young victim in court.

Btw, hundreds of thousands of people living today are survivors of the Holocaust and they have lived decent lives so that isn't a good excuse for his sickness. He simply likes little girls and his wealthy and power have protected him from justice. He is the father of a young teenage girl - would he like her to be attacked by some 40+ pervert?

Absolutely disgusting.

The US is such a pansy when it comes to extradition. Here we give Manuel Noriega to France after he served his sentence here. They wanted him for money laundering. Yet, they, France, will not extradite this POS Polanski after decades of living there. The time spent in Switzerland was a joke. Now he can go back to France and their POS President who adores this low life and hopes to see his wife in one of his movies. Yeah, celebrity in-justice as it's worst. Too bad a bounty hunter could not drag his sorry wrinkled rear end back to the USA and gain some glory.

Disgusting. Just shows that there is NO respect for women in this world. How can they justify allowing a confessed child rapist walk free. He is laughing in the face of the justice system.

Death to anyone and everyone who supports child molesters. We should bomb Switzerland and France, until there's nothing left but a fire that burns for five years. Someone should slit Roman Polanski's throat. The world would be such a better place w/out that miserable, baby-raping ****!

I'd see a Mel Gibson movie way before seeing anything this pervert rapist made. Yes, Whoopie, it was rape-rape. He was offered a plea to a lesser charge to spare the trauma of a trial to the 13-year old victim. The victim didn't consent. She was drugged with ludes and booze. He held her down and screwed her in her rear (to avoid pregnancy). Judge people on their actions, not on their words.

Now its in black and white why the pilgrims left, immoral, this ‘let’s hate america and ask for help at the same time’ is sickening. The fact that europeans think that there is nothing wrong with drugging and raping a child is horrifying. Or is it because its an american. After all these years of being downtrodden you people still believe that celebrities are better than their fellow man. Sad and embarrassing.
