Paris Hilton

Charged with

Drug Felony

8/30/2010 2:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Paris Hilton will be charged with possession of a controlled substance -- .8 grams of cocaine -- this according to documents obtained by TMZ ... and it's a felony.

We're told the D.A. filed the case today.  You can read the criminal complaint and the police report in this post.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, the cop who stopped the Escalade pulled along the passenger side of the vehicle and smelled "the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle."

The cop writes he noticed immediately the passenger was Paris.  He then observed her trying to roll up the window.

After the traffic stop and a crowd of 100 people gathered around, Hilton said she was "extremely embarrassed" and asked the cop if she could go to the bathroom at the Wynn Hotel.

At the hotel, Paris told the cop she needed lip balm so the cop handed Paris her purse: "As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggie begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."

The cop also says ... inside the purse was a "broken tablet of Albuterol" -- a prescription medication used to control wheezing.  And cops say they found Zig Zag wrappers ... commonly used to roll joints.

Paris then admitted the Albuterol was hers but she said the cocaine was not and claimed the purse was not hers -- that she had borrowed it from a friend.  The cop questioned Paris about the cocaine and according to cops Paris gave an odd answer: "She said she had not seen it, but now thought it was gum."

Note:  Paris has changed her story with friends, saying the purse was hers but had been in the possession of a friend.  Paris claimed to cops several cosmetic items in the purse were not hers, but she copped to $1,300 cash and some credit cards.

Cops say they found .8 grams of coke in the purse.

People,, the ignorance is unbelievable!! .8 grams is not going to send ANYONE to prison. Unless it's your 3rd strike out in Cali. It's not going to happen. She will get a fine, probation, some drug classes, maybe community service and thats it. And as #78 stated, it is .8,,, not 8 grams. Not an 8 ball like someone mentioned. 8 tenths of "a" gram. Wouldn't even last a whole night if she was a "real" drug addict like some of you are saying. Get off it, she will not do time, she will not go to rehab. Geeeeeeez. Wake up!! Get some street smarts already for crying out loud!!

Our drug laws are a joke. Do we really have to charge people with a felony for minimal amounts of coke or any drugs

Half a gram?? Might as well be loose dust. That much coke is not enough to do much unless it is super coke of some kind. I don't use it but had some friends in the 70's that would have sneered at that amount of leftover coke. I think the cop was overdoing it a bit, knowing it was Paris. The district attorney seems to be wanting to make a name for himself at her expense. I don't care what Paris does, she is mostly a silly diversion from reality.

I've never understood the furor and celebrity of Paris Hilton. She's ignorant, sports a stupid vapid grin, has eyes that are empty, and is far from good looking. I can't imagine what she'll do when she gets her full inheritance. Paris Hilton as a multi-billionaire? Ye gods.

Paris Hilton is a useless piece of flesh, I bet big daddy Hilton is soooo proud of his little girl. I hope they throw the book at her, but I'm sure she will get the best justice (daddys) money can buy. Borrowed purse my azz, she must be realy smart to come up with that one.

In California the motto for female celebs is "do the crime because you won't have to do the time".

Clearly, Paris has no regard for the law, she thinks she is above the law and can skate through anything. She has no conscious which is clear when she stated she is "not worried." She is on probation, and the police have the right to search her anytime which is stipulated in her probation.

Las Vegas is not like LA where they celeb struck, she isn't even a legitimate celeb as she has no apparent talents except product branding and her last name.

Her excuses are juvenile and ridiculous - laughable at best. her fingerprints are probably all over that bag as she had some of it because it was .8 grams. Hopefully, justice will be served.

Just because she is a celeb she thinks that she will get out of it....its a felony charge which means she will probably get two slaps on the wrist lol. Celebs do get off way too easy most of the time and thats why they end up overdosing in bathrooms or becoming punchlines.

yeah, it's about time. Why should she be treated any better than anyone els, she got caught doing the crime,so she has to do the time like all the rest of us has to. I don't think that she all that special and IT IS NOT LIKE THIS IS HER FIRST TIME, BUT IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT SHE IS MADE TO PAY.

What I find truly amusing is the fact that her boyfriend was fired from his manager's position at a Wynn's nightclub over this, and Paris has been 86'd from all Wynn's resorts.
Now can she please be 86'd from the media?

Amazing Women, and I don't care what everyone say.
I decided to name my new girl Paris.
Just did that after reading the following article talking about the popularity of her name during the years:

Is her Mommy going to yell at the judge again when he sends her to jail? Oh well, she will get a private cell and early release AGAIN.
