Miley Cyrus -- Under Fire for Beer Consumption

11/6/2010 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Miley Cyrus put herself and others at risk this week by indulging in that ice cold Corona at a nightclub in Spain ... this according to an international alcohol awareness organization.

Even though officials in Spain told us 17-year-old Miley didn't break any laws ... the head of the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness, James E. Copple, is concerned other young people will follow her lead and engage in "risky behavior associated with underage alcohol consumption."

Copple tells us, "The young people that see her as a role model could mimic the same behavior and as a consequence will go out and become intoxicated, putting their safety at risk."

Copple noted ... according to his organization, "85% of young people who drink, drink to get intoxicated."

So we gotta ask ...

I just think it's dangerous because she doesn't seem to care enough to maintain any sort of image any more. She WANTS to look bad. She's going to end up like Lindsay Lohan if she keeps this up. She's probably already on coke or something of the like. She's dangerous to herself.

It's not like this would be a huge deal if she wasn't Hannah Montana. She was REALLY dumb to do that show lol

People really need to prohibit their kids from watching Disney. Spears, Lohan, and now Cyrus. All examples of individuals nobody wants their kids to be like and all of them are individuals brought to us by the folks at Disney. I'm telling ya, that frigging mouse is evil.

You say ban Disney because of 3 people? What about Justin Timberlake, he came from Disney. Haley Duff? Ashley Tisdale? And so many more that have never been to rehab. The three people you mentioned were not only Disney kids but they all had parents that let them rule. Maybe that has something to do with it, not the people at Disney.

That being said. I have two young daughters, that I don't have to worry about drinking because Miley or anyone else does. When my 10 year old sees anyone behaving like Miley, or Lohan she thinks it's stupid. Both of my daughters can't understand why someone wants to drink, do drugs, or roll around in their underwear in a music video. If a parent teaches their child right from wrong and how to be a respectable person they do NOT have to worry about what anyone in the media does.

Oh for the love of Christ! Drinking isn't considered quite so sinful in Europe. They have a much more laid back attitude about it. It's amazing how some new "organization" comes crawling out of the woodwork every time a celebrity acts slightly human. And can we stop letting people who happen to sing, dance or act for a living be our children's "role models?" Start parenting your own damn kids and stop blaming strangers on TV for the world's problems. I'm cranky!!!

Well, it's true that young fans who look up to her will be influenced by this. Still, I think it's a shame the terrible approach to alcohol we have in this country. The fact that it's illegal for people under 21 only leads them to binge drink when they get their hands on it. If everyone were taught how to drink responsibly from a young age, things may be different (of course, that's not so for people who are genetically predisposed to develop alcoholism, but the average person would benefit).

agreed, still underage drinking is a serious matter, we have laws and we pay people to contain the problem.

"examples" are equally bad, and I don't like that picture (at all). Then we have idiotic "examples" on TV , where a teacher plays with a (seriously) underage girl (in life unexpected): that too is a bad example. no?

Still is way too easy to scream at a little (famous) girl , while is a little more complicated working for real to change the laws. That's why I wanna know what the International Institute for Alcohol Awareness did in that regard. Don't you wanna know too?

let's see what they did.

they seem active on the topic (with words): I wanna see what they did for real.

Yeah right, Miley is the do all, tell all and see all guru of teens in the US. Shes going to either sink or swim (probably sink) but who really cares! Miley wasn't around 20 years ago when teens drank at partys. So tell the people at Alcohol Awareness to pop another Oxy, drink another martini and STFU.

HELLOOO!! None of her fans would even know she drank any beer if the PapaRATzzi wasn't showing everyone. They need to get a life! I'm the mother of 15 & 12 year olds & I ALWAYS blame the stupid people that are showing our children what these people are doing. It's nobodies business what they're doing with their personal lives.

Please note that Miley is a teen. How many of us drank underage while in High School? I certainly did. Only difference between me and Miley is that I was not famous, therefore, no one that should have cared new. Miley did not ask to be a role model for your kids. If you are a parent and have problems with Miley's behavior, it is your job to educate your kids about what is acceptable and what is not. Stop expecting these celebrities to be perfect role models for your kids. They are just regular folks. I don't condone underage drinking - I am a parent of two teens -- but I am not that stupid to think at some point, if not already, they are going to experiment. If this was just a one time thing with Miley, move on...If not, I would hope that her loved ones and those that really care, would get her help before things escalate.

She is breaking the law. It would be one thing if the drinking age there was 17 but it's 18. She isn't 18 yet...

A lot of teens drink underaged and get arrested so she deserves to be arrested to. :/ and did you know if you drink underaged, you are more likely to have a drinking problem?

you're so effing dumb miley. i used to look up to you but now you blew it :/

Who cares! Who hasn't had a beer at 17? I myself liked scotch back then. As for Miley the role model, hmm, let me think. She works her butt off which most teens don't. She's already made a name for herself which most teens haven't. She takes all this crap from the media, idiot bloggers and whiny parent councils which means she has thicker skin than most adults. She's made millions by age 17 and hasn't gone off the deep end and been in need of rehab (like it or lump it you can thank her parents for that).

So for all you parents out there who fear their child might suddenly become a Miley, chill out, have a drink and let them. There are far worse things out there than having a hard working multi-million dollar teenager who feels like having a beer after work. Besides, the way the U.S. economy is going you might need one for your retirement.

The Parents council might want to set their sites a little higher and on the corrupt politicians running this country. Because here is a group of freeloading, back stabbing, corporate bought liars who are destroying an entire country than no one would want a a role model. Miley at least gives you a good tune for you buck, your government and banks hand you foreclosures, lost jobs and repo's your truck.

Time to get over yourselves people, its just a beer. There are much bigger problems to worry about then some 17 yr old (a tad short of 18) having a little fun.
