FBI's Cam Newton Probe Expands to Auburn Booster

11/17/2010 5:45 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The FBI investigation into the cash for Cam Newton scandal now involves a guy who gave more than $1 million to Auburn University ... and was recently arrested in a bribery sting.

Cam Newton Scandal Investigation
According to sources connected to the probe ... FBI agents looking into the Newton recruiting controversy are also asking about Milton McGregor -- a dog track owner arrested last month for allegedly bribing Alabama politicians to vote pro gambling.

We're told agents asked someone connected to the Newton case if he was familiar with McGregor or the bribery scandal.

It's unclear what, if any, direct connection McGregor has to Newton. Back in 2008, McGregor did donate a million bucks toward construction of a new arena at Auburn.

McGregor did not return a call for comment.

UPDATE 4:00PM PST: Milton McGregor's attorney tells TMZ his client has "never had any contact – direct or indirect – with Cam Newton, Cecil Newton, Cam’s father; Kenny Rogers or anyone purporting to represent Cam Newton."  He also says McGregor has never compensated student athletes at Auburn or any other school.

We mention Bama because your idiotic message boards have been trumpeting this very story for two weeks and reporting how they've emailed everyone from the NY Times to the Albuquerque Gazette to write about it. I guess only TMZ took them up on it in the end.

Of course Alabama Univ and its fans are the easy target for the outcoming of this story. Come on people, get real. As PP already stated, this has been going on way before the season even started. Recruit a real standout athlete like Mark Ingram and you wouldn't have this problem......

Just because your enemy is spreading it doesnt mean it's NOT true. Newton WILL be declared ineligible sooner or later! Count it!

First of all this has got to be the most absurd story that has yet to be printed about Cam Newton...Milton McGregor really?? TMZ how about getting your facts straight with some real proof to go along with it before you print this garbage. Get off the blogs & message boards and get to some real truths...or better yet, how about you stick to reporting about stupid "celebrities" rather than college football & their players. I bet the person reporting this story knows remotely nothing about football...does anyone else find it funny to see a story about a college football player wedged between some woman's dental records and something about Sarah Palin's daughter and Eva Longoria's divorce?? Stay out of sports TMZ..stick to petty celeb. gossip where you belong.

McGregor also donated $1 million to Troy University for construction of a new arena. He's also a trustee there.

Who's your source? Tell the truth--it was a neighbor of Cecil Newton, who saw the right reverend chasing McGregor down the driveway with a pitchin' wedge!

I for one am a HUGE Bama fan. I do believe Cam is an outstanding player on the field! But they all need to be outstanding on the field and off. Alot of young players look to them as hero's. They need to remember that! I'm not just talking about Cam. Other's as well! I'm ready for this to be over! I hate scandals it doesnt pan well for our SEC!! I hope in the long run that it's not true!

Until proof surfaces all those involved reporting speculation should shut the flip up and enjoy watching perhaps one of the greatest college QB's ever bring back a national championship to the loveliest little village on the plains.

Alabama fans like "Auburn hater" play coy and say things like "stupid aubs trying to blame bama."

What you "Auburn hater" bama fans don't get is that there is so much malice to these accusations that it's obvious someone who absolutely hates Auburn is behind them. There is so much ill-will to these things that anyone with an IQ above 60 can see them.

So, uh ... what was the point of the cheating accusations? I'll tell you -- it was solely to smear Cam Newton. Same goes for this so-called "connection." If there were any connection to McGregor, it would have been included in the indictment handed down a few weeks ago.

People who believe this will believe anything. I work for a major newspaper in Alabama (oxymoron, I know) and this rumor was making the rounds among people who aren't usually ones to repeat rumors or spread them (or even believe them without tangible proof). But they also seemed to believe it just because it was so bizarre it had to be true. Once you think about it, though. It's not and it's pretty evident.

You bammers think people won't see through this, but they will. They see all these accusations and nothing happening. Soon they'll ask why. Then they'll ask who hates Auburn. Then they'll come snooping around your house.

The crux of the TMZ story is, "We're told agents asked someone connected to the Newton case if he was familiar with McGregor or the bribery scandal."

So, someone asked somebody else if they were familiar with two stories still in recent memory here in the South. So what if they were familiar with two separate, distinct stories? How could they not be unless they live in a cave?

TMZ might as well have said, "We're told agents asked someone connected to the Newton case if he was familiar with the sinking of the Lusitania or the assassination of JFK."

It's a meaningless, inconsequential question.

Here here, all the stink that has to do with Cam Newton was not the evil congerings of a UA fan. It was, in fact, the doing of said crooks, Cam and Cecil Newton.

You throw a laptop out a window when the cops show up then they're gonna assume it wasnt yours.
You ask someone for compensation for sending your child to play football in the ncaa then it will come back to haunt you.
And last but not least, if your name is ever mentioned in the same sentance as Milton Mcgregor then your screwed, completely, forever.

Oh and AU fans, dont think that Cam has any allegiance to you at all. He had to know that all of this was gonna catch up with him, his goal from the start was to go pro before any of this hit the fan. SO AUBURN GETS ONE GOOD SEASON AND THEN GETS X AMOUNT OF FINES, REVOKED SCHOLARSHIPS, ETC... He is screwing you and your school so dont get mad at UA fans for saying "I told you so" later on.

Peace

I still don't know how it's relevant that class is even mentioned in sports. That's an idiotic term for a fan to say. Whatever bring on the Iron bowl, Get cha Popcorn ready! You can't pay 200K to win this one. Hahaha
