'Skins' -- Parents Org. Wants Kiddy Porn Investigation

1/20/2011 3:50 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The sex-obsessed, drug-heavy MTV show "Skins" is under fire from a very powerful parents org. that's now calling for a federal investigation into potential child pornography violations ... TMZ has learned.

MTV Skins PTC

The Parents Television Council has fired off a letter to the U.S Department of Justice AND the U.S. Senate and House Judiciary Committees ... over concerns the show uses underage actors in graphic sexual situations.

The organization explains, "In addition to the sexual content on the show involving cast members as young as 15, PTC counted 42 depictions and references to drugs and alcohol in the premiere episode."

The group adds, "It is clear that Viacom has knowingly produced material that may well be in violation of [several anti-child pornography laws].

Earlier this week, the New York Times reported that MTV execs have already met to discuss the issue.

So far, no comment from MTV.

Let me start by saying that I loved the British version of the show and it was much more vivid in terms of nudity, drug use and the like. I wasn't sold on the first episode of the British version, but as I continued to watch, I realized that it wasn't about sex and drugs at all. I actually felt for the characters and often found myself thinking "where are these kids' parents? why aren't they helping them? why doesn't anyone care". In the end, I think that was the point of the whole show. The U.S. version, however, will probably only get attention for the suggestion of nudity because of the more conservative nature of our culture. I did watch the first episode of the U.S. version and I have to say that though it was an almost verbatim copy of the British version, I'm just not that interested.

only in america would we see/hear so much crap about censorship. if you don't like what you see on tv then either a) turn it off or b) switch the channel. no one is telling you to sit and watch what you feel is "wrong" and "harmful". let it go already.

MTV over the years has turned to nothing more than spewing garbage on Cable. Skins even thought these kids themselves maybe over 18 but to portray this type of atmosphere is ok to the audience does not settle with very well. Another wining program jackass, also promotes garbage in a different way. I actually have MTV blocked permanently. I pretty much blame MTV for whats wrong with kids in society today.

MTV must go! Linds_Mac.......if you think a fictional show about teens doing drugs and having sex won't affect kids actions in real life than you need to take off your blinders. The fact that our society is so far gone that this is seen as entertainment makes me sick. Maybe when it's your kid you'll understand a little better. But I pray that never happens.

seriously, it's rated TV-MA, so if you have kids under 18 or so, you should probably not let them watch. it's not geared to teens, but 18-23 or so. and it was originally done by bbc with a far more stellar cast.

i'm sure there are some kids out there who don't do these things, but if you want to fool yourself into believing that this in no way resembles the average american teen, then you're correct ... they're not nearly so savvy. but for the drugs, drink and sex it is pretty damn close.

I watched this last night after reading all these comments... it wasn't really that shocking. Definitely no worse then American Pie, Family Guy or South Park. I think that what is shocking everybody is that they chose actors that are playing the role of their own age. Believe me parents. This is indeed what goes on in American high school. The language, the acts, everything. Maybe not with your child or your neighbors but it goes on and I'm sure your child already knows about it without watching the show. so calm down.

While I can see the outrage, if you don't want to watch it or don't want your kids to watch it....then turn the channel. It is not for the over religious zealous to make decisions about what the rest of the world can or cannot watch. MIND YOUR BUSINESS! I don't watch the show because it doesn't appeal to me....Do you know that this same issue came up about 90210....those kids were pretending to have and talking about S.E.X. How graphic are the scenes anyway? It is still cable.

I am not very religeous at all and I'm actually a very open-minded, laid back person but WTF is wrong with MTV airing a show like this?! One person commented that "It's a FICTIONAL program, it's not meant to be a blueprint for teens to live their lives by. If your kids are stupid enough to want to duplicate everything they see on TV then I think the problem is the parenting, not the programing." WOW! What a comment...I'm assuming the person who wrote this does not have children of their own. Kids brains are SPONGES and they are constantly absorbing everything and anything around them. It would not matter if a child's parents are ministers; if a child is intruiged and curious by something, they naturally want to try it out. That's just called LIFE! It's not easy at all being a parent and shows like this just make it harder. If a young girl sees another young girl on a show like this with her sexy body, sexy clothes, bitchy attitude lying to parents, then most likely she is going to think it's ok for her to be that way too. I think the show Skins is an awful program that could be very detrimental to today's children. And if it's true that some of the actors are 15 yr olds, then that is just SICK. When I was 15 I still played with stuffed animals...Kids these days have absolutely no innocence and show's like this are not helping at all!

Looks like the only way for MTV to get any viewers is to play one major trashy show after another!! I think the parents that let these kids be on this show are SICK INDIVIDUALS!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with this show is,they should have 18 year old actors in it,not 15 ,there is the problem ,if the kids in the show were 18 or older ,plaing 15ys olds ,it would be fine.

the show is TV-MA ,i believe it means not below 17 ,to watch but main people in the cast are 15 ,i wouldnt even want my daughter acting on the show at 15 with those scenes, all i have to say is i would have no problem if it were of age kids playing young teens

Now, i have no seen the mtv version of skins but i am a fan of the original bbc show. It is said to be a dramatized version of the english teens life. Of course for some it will be a far reach from there personal life (hence it being a DRAMA ) but for others it may hit close to home. I think the content is not much diffrent than other movies or shows out there. I also think that its not that controversial compaired to what i witnessed growing up. This show in England airs on BBC 1 (similar to ABC) with all curses, sex acts, drug references and so forth, shown. Why is it such an issue here. As a parent if you do not want your child watching it then dont let them or talk to them about it . I mean its as simple as that, mainstream tv is not there to give you the cookie cutter shows there are a corporation. Ratings is what keeps them alive. And anyways if your all that worried im sure theres a parental guide on your tv.

Wow, how ridiculous are some of these comments? Most Americans are so blind to what is really making their children little bastards. As stated, this show is adapted (so far quite poorly) from a UK version that is even more vulgar, but as others have stated it is about teenagers struggling with friendships, relationships, sexuality, and adults than it is about just getting f'ed up with drugs and alcohol. These are all things I went through as a teen in the US, and the British version deals with serious issues including overdosing, anorexia, depression, homosexuality and even rotten parenting. It is highly overblown and extremely entertaining, and a lot of British teenagers watch it. Guess what? I have yet to hear any stories about teenage fans of the show using it as an excuse for poor behavior. Believe it or not, even most 15 year olds would be able to tell that it is fiction that should not be followed.

Should you let your kids watch it? No, but if they are in High School they will be able to if they try hard enough. But unless you have been absent or lazy as a parent, they will know better than to replicate what they see. Hell, they have probably already tried most of what they see by age 15. Curiosity and experimentation are part of growing up, and it seems like it becomes more of a problem in America because parents blow it out of proportion making the forbidden fruit more tempting.

Maybe you should focus on our horrible education system and trash like this website taking over real news. Maybe you should just block the channel and give your kids a curfew. Or maybe American kids are just doomed to be more like the characters on Skins whether they have seen the show or not.
