Keith Olbermann --

Fired By MSNBC

1/22/2011 9:05 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Keith Olbermann was fired by MSNBC sources tell TMZ, and we're told it had everything to do with Comcast's acquisition of NBC.

Keith Olbermann Fired
Sources connected with the network tell us ... Comcast honchos did not like Keith's defiance and the way he played in the sandbox.

Our sources say Keith has around two years left on his contract, and he'll be paid his salary -- around $7 million a year.

We don't know if Comcast will let Keith make a deal with another network as part of an exit agreement, but it's a good bet he'll be benched for a minimum of 6 months, and probably longer.

Keith well set forth the politically liberal point
of view, as O'Reilly represents the conservative
point of view. It's likely best for viewers if both
viewpoints are well presented. Suddenly one corporation buys another and dismisses its very
able commentator. I always figured NBC was a
station that, like ABC and CBS, respected all
points of view, from liberal to conservative in
terms of commentary. Now, O'Reilly has pretty
much center stage. Comcast? Well, now we know pretty much where that corporation stands. Meybe they can get Rush Limbaugh to take Keith's place. Then he and O'Reilly can both attack Obama.

Interesting how the people who watch Fox News: 25% believe we found WMD's in Iraq, no such thing as global warming, Obama was not born in the U.S., E pluribus unum (from many one) means as long as you are white and believe in my God and that the second ammendment allows us to have a Howitzer in every back yard - from the minds of these kind of fascists comes the destruction of the 1st ammendment and they are defending Comcast for doing so - well done neo-cons!! I'm sure the rich white men who founded this country and wanted equality for rich white men only are very pleased - unlike the real founders Jefferson, Washington, Rupert Murdock

Firing Keith Olbermann is another example of modern "journalism" not being able to handle the truth. NBC, you should be ashamed. You, like Gannett and USA Today and Fox "News", have decided to jump on the bandwagon of dumbing down America and controlling content and opinion. Who is next? Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams? Your problem is that you, the powers that be at NBC, don't hold a candle intellectually to Keith, Rachel, Chris or Brian. I never dreamed that, in my life of experiencing broadcast journalism of Huntley and Brinkley, Tom Brokaw, Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Morrow, NBC would fall to the bottom of the pit of "make-it-up-as-you-go-along" TV "journalism". Once again, NBC, you should be ashamed.

Brian Roberts is a sly businessman. He most likely is trying to clean up irritations with the Republican party so that Comcast can successfully lobby in ways not seen before. With Comcast it's all about big profits and little to do with the customer base.

@ MSNBCisCrazyandwillregretit "Keith Olbermann's show will be greatly missed by millions" ?????

Um, sorry but he didn't have millions of viewers.

Bill O'Reilly had more than 2x as many viewers--they competed in the same time slot.

Keith Olbermann is the greatest news commentator on television today. It wasn't Keith who got fired today. He's go the talent and intelligence to land on his feet. It was democracy that got fired today.

The firing of Keith is just another example of a big business censoring any news or commentary by someone from the progressive end of the political spectrum. "Liberal Media Bias" is a propaganda term for any intelligent commentary on our political situation.

Keith may make 7 million a year, but he's just another working stiff when compared to the big-wigs who control American businesses. Keith called it like he saw it; he'll be missed. Hopefully, Comcast won't turn MSNBC into another FOX "News" spewing generic nonsense.

I have never been moved to comment on any blog! I Will miss a man that was profoundly passionate and factual about the politics that surround us each day. I'm not a Fan of a company that fires a successful show it's first week owning the network. Glad I have direct tv!

This sickens me. Great commentaries on Bush. Everything will turn out better for him-who in their right mind would want to work for Comcast
