30. Arquette getting out of rehab is breaking news? Get real.

Do you know when the term "breaking news" began to be used to frivolously and tritely? After 9/11 happened. Suddenly the world was on edge, and every tv station was constantly interrupting with "breaking news" about the terrorist event. This went on for the weeks following the slaughter.

Then the news shows and cable news grew quite fond of the attention that everyone gave to them every time they said the words "breaking news!" They became addicted to its use. Now everything in our world is BREAKING NEWS.

I have some breaking news for you, TMZ and all the rest. A pampered hollywood actor coming home from a cushy rehab joint is not breaking news. It's not even news. It's just an event. Report on it if you must, but do not dare consider it news or breaking news. I'm sick of this ploy to grab our attentions with trivialities.

Pray to God that no real breaking news occurs anytime soon. And if it does, what term will you use to describe it?

Lol! Breaking news just means that they broke the story, as in they were the first to report it.

I especially love when the Charlie Sheen's of the world go to rehab and make sure we know it's NOT for substance abuse. Charlie had a hiatal hernia - rehab is good for that - NOT! As for David, good luck. Stay strong for your child - she's watching.

I commend those celebrities that realize when they have a problem, they do something before it gets worse. It's those that ignore their problems, hoping it will go away but over time their problems only get worse. Drugs and Alcohol are not worth it, I've lost family and friends who did either or both.

Breaking News does not mean they broke the story. It means that it is important news that has just happened and is now being reported. It does not mean an exclusive news story, which you seem to be saying. Everybody probably knows this dude got out of rehab today. I stand by my post about the overuse of the term breaking news, because I noticed this when 9/11 happened. It was a first and it has continued ad nauseum. Breaking News should be reserved for something important and crucial to the citizens of the nation. Otherwise, there is nothing left to say when something serious or noteworthy does occur.

#3, Cartman, why so literal?? What a moronic response. Why not just be smart enough to know they said he was being treated for alcohol and other issues and not drugs because that was their way of being specific and stating alcohol but not other forms of drugs like pot, pills, coke etc. Intelligent people know how to make sense of comments like this and they also know not to be so literal and/or anal by pointing out something everyone with common sense already knows! Policing the message boards to look for mistakes so you can call them out....but you end up looking like the fool when you show you don't have the sense to figure out something that most others did! Nice.
