With all the useless celebrities out there that think they should be rich and famous for doing nothing it is easy to forget that some people earned their fame and fortune and did it by helping people improve their lives. Jack will be missed.

As I recall reading many years back, Jack was not too fond of anyone using steroids or other drugs to enhance their so called fitness routines. Jack endorsed the natural body builders. Arnold was certainly the ground breaker for others to follow with little regard to the long term negative effects. Now, Richard Simmons, as strange in behavior he may seem, was in fact a true Jack follower in natural workout routines and healthy eating. I'm almost certain that Lou followed in the Arnold routine, though I may be wrong.

I'm glad to see some of the big names in fitness there although it would have been even more awesome if more of them were there like Susan Powter and Billy Blanks, etc. R.I.P. Jack!

Jack was a great man, he did a lot for the fitness industry. Even more than that, he actually paved the way to a lot of our athletes modern day training techniques. A lot of people don't know this, but he was a huge advocate of weight training at a time when people thought it would make you stiff, unbalanced and clumsy. That's why a lot of the old time weight lifting competitions had events where they had to show how well their balance was. He helped broaden our view of what it meant to be a well balanced athlete, and hit legacy will always remain. RIP.

How can you ever forget Jack on t.v. in the mantard doing jumping jacks? Grew up with that image. Got to really love the guy. And his infomercials with Elaine and his juicer. It would be nice if his dog's remains (ashes?) could be placed with him. Forest Lawn scores another celebrity. Check out Arnold's wonderful eulogy:

Like millions of others, I grew up with Jack LaLanne on black & white TV.

LaLanne was an inspiration to us sedentary types and I have wonderful memories of watching the program with my mother as we worked out with Jack! Those were the days when I marveled at tht JFK-inspired 50-mile hikes and when Robert Preston's "Go You Chicken Fat Go" resonated with me.

Jack's darker side was not lost on me. His (other) constant companion, Happy and LaLanne's love affair with his viewers not withstanding (who among us suspected- let alone knew- Jack and Elaine had a son?), LaLanne appeared often less than respectul of Elaine.

LaLanne exhibited his sense of fun and humor, but when his "humor" was directed at Elaine it was sometimes fell short to the point not only of disrespect but verbal abuse.

A woman apparently very much of her generation, as Jack was apparently a man of his, Elaine either didn't want to mess with the franchise, just accepted the price of being married to Jack, or perhaps internalized what Jack saw as her imperfections as long-suffering people with low self-esteem, who want to preserve their marriages at any cost, are prone to do.

Whatever floats your boat...
