Hospitalized for Bipolar Disorder

4/13/2011 3:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly entered a mental health treatment center for a bipolar disorder ... despite her rep squarely denying the story to TMZ.

One of Catherine's reps now tells People.com, "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder."

We're told Catherine had been in Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut for treatment, but she has checked out.

We knew something had to be wrong with her. Get the meds and stay on the meds.

Poor woman! My mother suffered from this for the last 20 years of her life. There is no easy fix here, and it's going to be hard on her and her family. The key is to get the right balance of medications, and pray that none of them go off the market once you do. Fortunately, she's in a position where she can afford the best treatment, but still, it's not going to be easy. As cheesy as this is to say, my heart does go out to her and her family on this, because it never goes away.

Very recently, Michael Douglas was on Leno and said his cancer is COMPLETELY gone. From stage #4 cancer to completely, gone, is in itself, remarkable. Unfortunately, my husband died of cancer which was extremely aggressive after only seven months of diagnosis. My family and I are very happy for Michael Douglas and wish him continued health and happiness.

LMAO. I'm so tired of these pathetic, spoiled, weak people. The "stress" of the last year??? What stress would that be? Try living like a normal person, raising your own children without nannies, saving money to take a week long vacation at some place relatively inexpensive, not spending a month on a yacht in the Mediterranean, try getting up and going to work every day. PLEASE - these self-righteous, whiners are pathetic!

How refreshing to have someone famous admit to a mental illness. Are you watching this Britney Spears, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen?

When Health Reform Act kicks in completely in 2014, so many people who couldn't get insurance because of this disorder will now be able to buy insurance on the Insurance Exchange. If you have even taken one of the common meds for Bipolar, insurance companies usually won't touch you if you are an individual and not on a group plan, even if you are otherwise healthy. And small businesses can't hire people with this disorder if they are on so small a group plan that the rates would go up astromically. While insurance won't cover much of the out-patient psychiatric bill, it will pay for the meds, the combination of which can cost several hundred per month. I believe suicides will be prevented as a result of the health care reform. CZJ is fortunate she can afford top quality care, if that is indeed what she has. From what I've heard of the way she sometimes treats people on the set, it may be.

Good for her!!! One of the hardest things for those with a bi-polar is to admit they need help. My son is bi-polar and keeping him on meds is a constant struggle. I'm glad CZJ is taking the time to see to her mental health! I applaud her!
