Gay Rights Group SLAMS Kobe -- 'What A Disgrace'

4/13/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Kobe Bryant's homophobic outburst "perpetuates a culture of discrimination and hate" ... so says a gay rights group which has deemed last night's incident as "horribly offensive."

TMZ spoke with the Human Rights Campaign -- who told us, "What a disgrace for Kobe Bryant to use such horribly offensive and distasteful language, especially when millions of people are watching."

The group adds, "Hopefully Mr. Bryant will recognize that as a person with such fame and influence, the use of such language not only offends millions of LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] people around the world, but also perpetuates a culture of discrimination and hate that all of us, most notably Mr. Bryant, should be working to eradicate."

As we previously reported, Kobe appeared to have mouthed the words "f**king f**got" towards an NBA ref last night after he was hit with a technical foul.

Kobe is an idiot anyway and nothing but poop comes out of his mouth. So why should this be any different?

I say if the shoe fits, wear it! I didn't realize that there were so many brilliant lip readers. Get over it....you are the ones that decided to live outside the moral laws of man.

So if a white player said out of frustration and in the heat of the moment to a black player the "N" word do we just fluf that off? Of course not every black human rights organization would be all over that...there is no excuse even if it's out of frustration you are in the public eye and on live tv pay more attention Kobe!

I personally think that this was racially movitvated. Anytime a successful black person deviates from the invisible line that White America and the Media drew for them to walk, then they are publically condemned and villainizes. Its funny how that Radio Doctor can make racial slurs and generalizations and escape unscathed. But because a basketball player got emotional(like that never happenes) then he is looking at being suspended? That is rather odd, seeing as Villanueva was about to kill a man, but no one is talking about that... Not even TMZ, whats up with that?? And even Chris Brown breaking a mirror got more coverage than the war in Libya. Why is it that the media has it out for black people?

I AM INTOLERANT OF THOSE WHO DEMAND TOLERANCE! STOP WITH THE EQUAL SIGN ON CARS, IT IS NAUSEATINGLY POLITICAL SENSITIVITY NONSENSE. WHY NOT PUT A QUESTION MARK ON YOUR CAR AFTER THE EQUAL SIGN. I THINK THOSE PEOPLE THAT DEMAND TO BE EQUAL HAVE FAR MORE RIGHTS THAN THOSE WHO THEY IMAGINE TO BE THEIR EQUAL.

#164 - "...this story about Kobe has not infringed upon anybody's rights. There shouldn't be a single person that woke up today, saw what Kobe said, and feel they have less rights than anyone else."

You sound like a rational and decent person (unlike so many of the homophobic nutcases populating these boards); but you seem to be missing the point. We're not talking about "rights". What GLAAD, among others, is trying to explain is that Mr. Bryant was using the word "f*gg*t" to insult and demean this ref....by using a word that insults and demeans LGBTQ people. He was certainly not trying to complement the ref by using this word. He was applying an ugly term that is used against LGBTQ people all the time...and he wasn't "smiling" when he used it. Apparently he considers it a slur to imply that someone is gay

It's just a dumb word. All of you thin skinned little weenies getting up in arms about a silly word gives it more power then it should have. Should he have said it on camera? Probably not. Bad taste no question. But for you to throw a hissy fit and get offended every time someone says a slur just makes you look weak. Its a free country.

My fellow gay brethren need to GET OVER THEMSELVES and stop trying to rub everyone's noses in it. There are enough sacrosanct, politically correct colloquialisms ad nauseum out there to choke a horse. Most of them irrelevant. Stop pretending your outraged when you aren't and don't tell me you are because I know better. This wasn't a bashing. He should learn from this mistake but really at this point who gives a flying F.
