Lady Gaga

I Didn't Reject

Weird Al Yankovic

4/20/2011 4:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lady Gaga is adamant ... she did NOT ban Weird Al Yankovic from parodying her hit song "Born This Way" -- despite Al's accusation that the pop star shut him down hard recently.

Weird Al ripped into Gaga on his blog this morning -- claiming the egg-encased pop star strung him along for weeks while he tried to get her approval for his parody "Perform This Way" ... and ultimately rejected the proposal.

But sources extremely close to the singer tell us, "There must have been a misunderstanding because [Gaga] is in no way trying to block the release of the parody."

According to sources, "She's busy touring and hasn't heard the song yet. Her manager hasn't had a chance to play it for her yet" -- adding, "She's a huge Weird Al fan."

A bizarre situation -- because Al claims Gaga's manager is the one who denied him in the first place ... forcing him to release "Perform This Way" unofficially on YouTube.

So that's what you consider 'ripping into'? :|

This seems very ungaga like, who generally is quite open to parodies of herself. (Remember her saying she had a donkey **** anyone?) I'm pretty certain it's her manager who's pulling out all this tom foolery.

Calm yourselves, dears, all will be resolved in time.

right from AL's blog

"Gaga’s manager has now admitted that he never forwarded my parody to Gaga – she had no idea at all. Even though we assumed that Gaga herself was the one making the decision (because, well, that’s what we were TOLD), he apparently made the decision completely on his own.

He’s sorry.

And Gaga loves the song."

so now it will be on the new album and everyone is happy well hopefully not GAGA's manager i hope he will be out of a job

Definitely, Gaga is back-peddling now that it's up on You Tube and it clearly states at the end of the video that proceeds would have gone to charity. WOULD HAVE - being the key words - had she initially given her ok. I have no doubt she turned it down and now is trying to look like she hadn't a clue as to being asked permission to do it.

I've loved Weird Al since I was a kid. What I don't understand is why he just doesn't release it on an album anyway. Parody is protected speech, so he's free to do it.

Funny that GaGa wouldn't let Weird Al do a parody of Madonna's song.

Haha, look at all the psycho Weird Al fans coming out to support him! The man makes a living off other artists! You are calling Gaga unoriginal? Grow up.

Al himself said Gaga gave him permission and then HER MANAGER turned him down. So, it had nothing to do with Gaga, who has now said an official yes to the song.

"There must of been a misunderstanding because [Gaga] is in no way trying to block the release of the parody."

"OF BEEN"?
There is a grammar misunderstanding because it should be: "There must HAVE been"

Actually the mistake comes from the contraction of "MUST HAVE" which is "Must've". It sounds like "Must of".

So this quote should be "There must've been a misunderstanding".

As for Gaga, as much as I dislike her, it IS possible it was her manager that screwed it up.

The grammar mistake is minor and preferable to idiots who repeatedly point out the mistake. You may know grammar but obviously you don't read.

So, why didn't he just ask Madonna for permission to parody "Express Yourself"?

He could have parodied "Express Yourself" and then claimed no similarity to "Born This Way" because they are, after all, completely different!!
