Tornadoes Jeopardize Lauren Alaina's 'Idol' Votes

4/28/2011 4:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lauren Alaina fans are in an uproar -- worried she might get cut from "American Idol" tonight ... because of the deadly tornadoes that ripped through the South last night.

0428_lauren_ailana_EX_01

Lauren's hometown of Rossville, Georgia -- population 3,500 -- was devastated by the twisters ... leaving most homes without power, land lines, or mobile phone service.

Now Lauren's friends and family tell TMZ they're concerned because Lauren's main supporters couldn't see the show and weren't able to vote.

One friend said, "It would be a travesty if she was taken off the show because of an Act of God" -- and another added, "I do believe the weather should be taken into consideration when it comes to the voting."

One friend who was outside the damage zone tells us she voted more than usual for Lauren ... and made online appeals for others to do the same.

Will it be enough to get Lauren into the top 5?

An "Act of God"? I guess Haiti and Japan were an "Act of God" also. How can a rational human being believe in a god that purposely inflicts suffering on his children? Is this the "love of God"? Shame on you for advocating such an evil idea, which has no evidentiary basis in reality.

@jww and the rest of the ding-a-lings, no one ever said that AI took priority. It's just mentioned as an article because that would be disappointing to fans. But according to you imbeciles, no one in America should be find disappointment in seeing their favorite idol go home because they couldn't receive votes. And even though they are not from the same state, and don't even know that people died, they were supposed to be watching the news, and keeping track. It's stupid people like this that hold us all back.

I cannot believe she is more worried about staying on Idol than the fact her hometown was devastated. I live in Alabama and was very fortunate to not suffered any damage. My husband works with a man who lost his wife in a tornado. He was holding onto her arm when she was ripped away from him, and they found her body 2 miles away. Remaining on some show should be the last thing anyone thinks about right now. We have hundreds of people homeless, without power or water, and who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Just shows where priorities lie.

jww- agreed. this is such a travesty and all those people can think about is how it effects voting for a meaningless show. people lost lives, loved ones, homes, everything. who cares about ai and whether or not people will be able to vote. anyone thinking about that and not the former are deplorable, pathetic excuses for human beings.

How sallow and callous can folks be ? 208 people were killed in this storm ..worry about the suvivors of this storm and what they are facing and prayer for those who died. We had 128 people killed here in north carolina 2 weeks ago in a previous outbreak of spring tornados and nobody called for the voting would be affected for that Scotty fellow who is from here....
TMZ shame on you shame on your using this for one of you sleazy headlines....
Besides everybody knows the winner was already picked way back before the show was aired and the voting doesn't have a thing to do with it...your numbers are made up anyway....they just use the phone calles to detirmine which person to elimunate nest for the biggest impact and which will keep the fans coming back for the next show

Something is seriously wrong with these people. Almost 300 people die and they are worried about some chick getting voted off of AI. I swear people in this country are getting dumber by the day and their priorities are all screwed up.

Are you out of your freeking mind! People DIED due to this devastation and you are worried about whether or not they got to vote!!! You are beyond stupid, if she had any sense at all she would leave Idol and go help her community and help them begin to rebuild. Have some compassion and most of class! Just an idiot!

I agree with this one. Pia was just plain boring and got voted off because of it. They should hold off the voting until this week.

Wow. Well after her home-towners read this they won't care if she makes it or not. Her PR people just shot her in the head. Smooth.

Lets not worry about power, land lines being down or the fact that homes and lives were destroyed...lets worry about American Idol votes. Another worthless story TMZ.

jww, I agree with you completely. I think those people have more to worry about than who wins American Idol. Getting their TVs and phones back just so they can watch the show and vote for this girl is not a priority right now. Even if it IS this contestant's hometown, the lives and well-being of the community have to be the priority here.

Besides, if the girl doesn't get enough votes to stay on the show without the support of her home town, perhaps she isn't good enough to win anyway. I mean, shouldn't the winner of the competition be someone who appeals to the majority of the audience and not only the people who support her just because she happens to be from wherever they live? People will vote for a great singer no matter where they live and that's who should win.

It's not a "travesty" if this girl doesn't win American Idol. The travesty is all of the damage done by the tornados, particularly the 280 lives that were lost!

I am SHOCKED that this is a story on your site. 194 people died in my state yesterday. Thats 194 mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and grandparents. People are STILL missing! We watched it on live television. Ya'll are so out of touch with reality. God be with you. I doubt Lauren gives a CRAP about people voing for her Now when so nmany people have been impacted by this. I wouldnt expect people on the west coast to understand anyway since you live in a different world anyway. I will pray for ya'll.

no matter how many votes she lost, AI2011 is already planned to make her win. It is very obvious.
