Jaden Smith

Multi-Million $$$ Pay Out for 'Karate Kid'

5/1/2011 8:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

He's only 12 years old -- but last year, Jaden Smith pulled in SEVEN FIGURES to star in "Karate Kid" ... TMZ has learned.

0429_jaden_smith_EX_getty2

TMZ obtained Jaden's "KK" contract from June 2009 -- back when he was only 10 -- and according to the docs, his up-front fee was split into two installments ... one for $900,000 and one for $100,000.

But Jaden's back end deal was even more lucrative -- since the film topped $150 million in the domestic box office, the young actor locked down another $2 million bonus.

But $3 million is the bare minimum -- based on several additional in-contract perks AND the astronomical success of the film, Jaden likely pulled in even more.

He's still the poorest person in his family.

No personal insult against the family...but consider that fortune Jayden made a blessing since the movie, in my opinion, was not very good at all! I think some classics should be left just as such. And to think that he was choosen for the role just because of who is parents are, is probably not a stretch.

Nepotism in Hollywood sucks as it keeps us in Middle America from seeing new, real emerging talent. I have seen this movie and do believe that any other child could have played the part. Just would have been nice to see a new face instead of an actors offspring who got the part just because his parents are who they are. Tired of Hollywood keeping the money$$$ within their circle. HOLLYWOOD - let the money out and start bringing aboard new talent we haven't heard of and talent that's not a child of someone from famous etc. We need new blood this old blood is just stale, starting to mold and should be thrown out. BLECH!

Sorry to offend the Will Smith family lovers: not one person in that family ias worth THAT kind of money, most of all, their haughty obnoxious kids!!! They certainly take after their parents. Jada certainly has shown her attitude over the years!!! Again sorry to offend but this is just my opinion.

This kid did a very good job in that movie and he deserves it, just hope he does not follow in the path of many child stars down the line, kids who have everything sometimes follow a strange path, hopefully with mentors and all he and his sister will not get the big head.

@SoundofSeattle
I more or less agree with you
any other child actor (who may have been more talented, but lesser known by way of famous parents) getting that role would never have been able to get a deal like that in a remake of an old movie!

remember Haley Joel(I see dead people)Osment in The Sixth Sense
his teriffic performance drove that original unique film (Bruce Willis helped of course)
and he got nothing near that I'll bet!

and it was a pleasure to see him doing interviews back then for the film
he wasn't a smirky smart alec poser like this kid was in all the interviews that I saw
it was sad really to see a child with that posture and attitude- some may find it cute, but I really worry about him...

time will tell who the really good child actors are
and who survives childhood with either their lives (or careers if they stay in the business) in tact..
and who is smart enough to actually get a well rounded education (think Jodie Foster, Brooke Shields, James Franco-quite a few smart ones)

not sure if Jaden Smith will be one of them
cross your fingers that he will be...

Hollywood has been flooded by DEMOCRATS who apparently want to rob the rich to give to the lasy and druggies but apparently not WILL SMITH. Talk on the both sides of their mouth.

A shame some youngster trying to break into entertainment couldn't have had that role and $$, this young one has plenty. Nepotism sucks.
