'Celeb Apprentice' Star Begins Prison Sentence

5/2/2011 10:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former "Survivor" champion Richard Hatch is now officially inmate #05559-070 at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn ... where a few days ago, he began his 9 month prison stint for not paying taxes on his prize money.

Richard Hatch Jail

TMZ spoke with  Federal Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley -- who confirmed Hatch checked in on April 29 ... and is expected to be released on December 12, 2011.

Hatch -- who was recently fired on this season's "Celebrity Apprentice" -- made a public plea to raise enough cash to pay off his debt, but his words apparently fell upon deaf ears.

Maybe he though he was above the us constitution which specifically grants congress the power to levy taxes in article 1 section 8

1. He already went to prison and served time for it. Trying and jailing someone twice for the same crime = Unconstitutional and illegal

2. Debtor's prison = unconstitutional and illegal.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

This indignant, insignificant, belligerent little twerp thinks he's relevant enough for people to bail him out of his self-created legal mess. He can rot in cell block the next four years with the rest of the criminals. Where are your corporate smarts now?

If Martha had to do time, so do you!

The nerve of this guy. He made bank by playing a game (that was about douching others over). And then he plays games with the IRS. THEN he wants help paying it off. Um, how did all that money benefit anyone BUT you, and why should we help you? Not as much of a winner as ya thought you were!! Sickening sense of entitlement.

Exactly. So which of these do you think is true:

1) Hatch is being mistreated constitutionally

2) TMZ got the story wrong.
