Stuttering Group Rips Trump -- How D-D-D-Dare You!

5/2/2011 11:29 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A support group for stutterers is furious with Donald Trump for calling Seth Meyers a "stutterer" ... after the SNL star roasted his ass during Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner.

A rep for the Stuttering Foundation -- which describes itself as a "non-profit organization helping those who stutter" -- targeted the Donald in a statement to TMZ, saying, "Shame on you, Mr. Trump!"

The statement continued, "We ... find it discouraging that in 2011, Donald Trump has chosen to use the word 'stutterer' in a derogatory fashion, something to be made fun of, to describe Seth Meyers' speech at the annual White House Correspondents' dinner."

The rep adds, "We had hoped that this kind of unfortunate comment was a thing of the past."

As we previously reported, the Donald mocked Seth's joke delivery after the dinner -- calling him a "stutterer" -- but the crowd seemed to disagree ... because Trump was the only one not laughing.

so we can't say Gay, we can't say the "n" word, (and depending on who you're talking to, African American, and Black are also offensive), you can't say Retarded, and now you can't say stutterer.

really now? I mean come on.

Trump is a huge gas bag tool who can't take any kind of criticism without launching a personal attack on someone else. He's not worth the air that inflates him. And tmz's slackers aren't looking too good either with that headline. Both of you need a huge bottle of Grow Up!!

These porky pig stutterers ought to lighten up. Stop with the "feely good" bs and get a life. If wimps like Kobe would stop dropping to his knees everytime some "offended" group whines, this would be a better world.

Accept it. Trump has to be delusional to wear his hair and eyebrows as he does and think he looks good.
The guy is a joke who uses bankruptcy as a "business strategy". I am sure his creditors really appreciate that. Let him try that as president and see if China goes for it. We'll all be eating with chopsticks by the end of his first year.

Trump is the biggest loser. He can dish it but can't take it. Still running around like a big baby crying about how others pick on him when he is a true big bully. Go cry to FOX, they will listen. Seth, good job.

Donald Trump used to be a character: larger than life, sense of humour, strange comb-over, etc. Ever since he started this birther thing, he has revealed himself to be a grotesque buffoon. This "stutterer" remark has just made him even more pathetic. The fact that I stutter means that everytime I hear or see Trump, I will leave me with a bitter taste.

National Stuttering Association

As a person who stutters, I find that emotional support is just as important as therapy when it comes to stuttering. To meet other people who stutter who can relate to what we go through helps us accept our stuttering more than anything else. For 35 years the National Stuttering Association (NSA) has connected kids and adults who stutter to other kids and adults who stutter through local chapter meetings, workshops, on-line support groups and annual conferences in which over 600 people who stutter attend each year! Conferences have included such keynote speakers as VP Joe Biden, Arthur Blank (Owner, Atlanta Falcons), Adrian Peterson (Chicago Bears), Annie Glenn, John Melendez and John Stossel. They all shared truly amazing stories. To learn more, visit

I get it that TMZ is known for being irreverent and not pulling punches when it comes to celebs. But it really is unnecessary for you to title the article with the "D-d-d-d..." bull****.

It's very true that oversensitivity is an issue that people need to address, because it creates perhaps as many barriers as insensitivity. It would be nice, however, for TMZ to show the kind of common sense that says, "Hmmm...I bet there are quite a few people who read TMZ's page who either stutter or love people who stutter. Maybe we shouldn't parody stuttering (which, incidentally, does not happen in written language, which is presumably from where your statement from the foundation came) in a manner that has no socially redeeming commentary.

If Trump had a speech impediment, it would be fair to parody him since he made the stuttering comment. To think of it, though, it seems the most likely reason Trump "went there" in his critique was because Meyer did, in fact, parody Trump's accent in his roast. Meyer probably realized that Trump's accent is one of the least likely things to be spoken of in polite company, since it smacks of classism and would tend to alienate large numbers of Obama supporters, yet it is also one of Trump's least appealing qualities when it comes to MOST of the country, particularly the south, the mid-west, and the west coast. As I said, MOST. Born in NY to Brooklyn native myself, I know that NYC accents are often the first things that actors and politicians try to lose when they want to play to a larger audience.

Remember Willem DaFoe as Jesus Christ in "The Last Temptation of Christ"? Aside from his accent, DaFoe was marvelous as the tormented Jesus. But his superb acting talent, in my mind, was greatly weighed down by his thick Wisconson accent, which, mixed with a little NYC he picked up from many years living there, sounds like it's from its own burrough in the Big Apple. I just couldn't take him seriously as Jesus. You could say that killed his Jesus for me, more than the nails and the inevitable body-fluid-drowning that is the real cause of death in crucifixion...but I digress.

Trump has not chance ONE of becoming US President, he knows it, Obama knows it, Seth Meyer knows it, and the majority of the non-birther/******ger American people know it. The reason he was so roundly stomped on at the WHCD was that he's taking up valuable airtime promoting himself and distracting us all from the important issues of the day, and oh so important they are. Stuttering is not one of them, however, any more than at any time in the past, though it has its place. Too many people who stutter are quietly marginalized by an ignorant public who think that stuttering is a sign of low intelligence...or worse in the U.S... a lack of arrogance (AKA self-esteem).

This entire name-calling issue, of course, is childish, as Trump is.

Since we're talking about it, we're just as childish. So I'll end by saying this:

I'd sooner give my vote for class president to the occasionally stuttering class clown than the to spoiled rich bully who got all his money from daddy but brags about his wealth as if he's a self-made man.

Two more words for people who are thinking Trump's business a***en will translate well into government leadership and fiscal responsibility: BANKRUPT CASINO

Look it up.
