Actually, power pop was a big part of the nirvana sound, that's what made Nevermind such a huge success.

I was listening to the Redd Kross podcast (an 80s-90s power pop indie group, if you don't know), and they mixed the Jonas Brothers right in there with The Last and The Runaways. It worked, I thought it was brilliant. Miley and the Jonas Bros are the inheritors of the power pop legacy to which Nirvana heavily contributed. In fact, nowadays, the Disney/Nickelodeon stable are almost the only power pop game in town.

Anyway, I have to admit I was momentarily revulsed when I heard about it, but the light went off pretty quickly, it's really not that strange if you think about it.
