Macho Man's Autopsy -- Cause of Death Not Known

5/22/2011 1:05 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The autopsy of wrestling legend Randy "Macho Man" Savage did not yield an exact cause of death ... sources tell TMZ.

Sources tell us the autopsy was completed yesterday and the cause of death is still "pending." We're told the ME did not notice any "extensive trauma" to his body.

According to our sources, it might take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for toxicology results to be completed.

As TMZ first reported, Savage (real name Randy Poffo) died in a car accident on Friday when his car veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic, and "collided head-on with a tree."

Macho Man's brother told us he suffered a heart attack, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Years of drug use...that's probably the real cause of his death. His wife, "Miss Elizabeth", died in 2008 from a drug overdose. So, if he gave up the drugs, it probably wasn't until within the past couple of years.

There's a problem here

That pretty much rules out any critical disease or sudden death scenario; heart, brain, etc. Pinnelas County has a good M.E. staff and a lot of good forensics. Pending tox reports helping to declare a cause of death is usually not a good thing, but I liked Randy Savage and I'm really hoping that this doesn't get ugly and turn out to be just another subtance abuse story.

And WWE never put him in their Hall Of Fame because Vince didn't like him spitting on a fan when he was a heel. Wonder if Vince will now. It could depend on the results of these tests. Vince isn't big on putting guys in the Hall of Fame that died of enlarged hearts and steroids so as to not draw attention to all that. Actually, The Rock will probably get inducted next year, as he's part of next year's Wrestlemania, plus it's in Rock's home town of Miami, so it would help Macho Man's induction as he would be kind of buried after all the Rock hoopla.

Alot of those wrestlers took steriods....I am guessing this is what killed him.

It will look like natural causes just like Corey haim but the truth is a little more difficult as a lifetime use Drugs was definitely a contributing factor.

If it was a heart attack, the ME would have seen that right away. This was either drugs or alcohol.

Just curious, was Randy "Macho Man" Savage a steroid user? I wasnt familiar with him but I looked at his pictures from his wrestling days and he looked normal size to me...

This is fairly unremarkable stuff here. For a wrestler he was an old man (58). What struck me odd was when brother Leaping Lanny, within minutes of the accident, Randy had suffered a heart attack. The wrestling game is brutal on the human body, and this guy was one of the best. RIP

Usually if it's a heart attack it's fairly easily seen in the autopsy.

I think this might be another classic wrestlers death "natural causes".

He grew up in the McMahon steroids era and the heart wasn't made to use steroids.
