Diabetes Group to Steve-O: Don't Hate on Meat!

6/1/2011 3:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The American Diabetes Association wants to teach Steve-O a lesson ... after he BOYCOTTED a diabetes benefit for serving meat -- telling TMZ, eating animal flesh isn't necessarily bad for diabetics.

0531_ada_steve_o_ex_tmz

As we previously reported, Steve-O walked out on an ADA benefit when he found out meat was on the menu -- claiming serving meat at a diabetes fundraiser is "like serving alcohol at an AA meeting."

But a rep for the ADA tells us, there is no rule that you can’t eat meat if you have diabetes -- every person is different, and should be on a meal plan that works best for them.

0531_steveo_boycott_mini_vid_launchThat said, the ADA still welcomes Steve-O at their events with open arms -- telling us, "The doors are always open."

Thank you OldBaneen for real information.
Really people, listening to Steve-O for medical information is about as stupid as listening to a former porn star on whether to have your children vaccinated or not.

Effing hilarious BB - you "accidentally" post a link, obviously in your cut/paste buffer, that serves every meat imaginable and then throw out a couple of links to the same shameless self-serving "doctor" spewing old, contested information. PR much?

OldBaneen - Don't be such an idiot. I go to different restaurants all the time with my friends and like to look at the menu to make sure I can find a vegan plate.
Too bad it takes so long for people to believe there is a way to get better now.

If TMZ did it's reporting correctly, they'd know organizers lied and said it was only to be a plant-based/vegan meal served to show Diabetes sufferers it can be done. That's why Steve-o went. Leave it to Jason Ellis to get the real story from Steveo. This is one-sided reporting.

He mentions the plant based meal in the video, but everyones so focused on the meat factor and calling him an idiot. I'm glad he stood up for himself & applaud just how nice & cordial he was to everyone involved before he left. There's countless other celebs that would most likely have a temper tantrum. Keep on the road to recovery Steveo!!

There are merits to diabetics NOT eating meat. In fact, there seem to be ties between high processed meat consumption and diabetes.

What Steve-o was likely trying to do was advocate a compassionate and healthful diet for those who could potentially reverse some of their condition (see PCRM's research on the vegan diet and diabetes). I am a diabetic (type 1) and a vegan, and the diet (which is primarly whole foods) is keeping my blood glucose quite stable.

Steve, YOU are the one who is lying!!!! The organizers' website made NO mention of it and you are as pathetic as Steve-O who also made up that same lie. Go to http://celebritygokart.perfectbydezign.com and show me where a plant-based diet was mentioned.

I'm waiting...

In response to some previous comments, I believe Steve-O's concern is about the relationship between meat consumption and the DEVELOPMENT of type 2 diabetes -per se-, not with controlling glucose levels. Apparently, there is some research that would support this claim, e.g.:

Meat is said to be one of the causes of diabetes. So I don't blame him for walking out with that info. I probably would've too.
