Congressman Weiner Taking Leave of Absence

6/11/2011 2:15 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Congressman Anthony Weiner just announced he's taking a leave of absence from Congress and has departed this morning "to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person."

Weiner's rep released a statement saying, "[Congressman Weiner] will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well."

The statement went on to say, "Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents."

@ Dr. Bill -- Sure hope your latest post was meant ironically. After all, the CA Department of Corrections did not like someone wearing their uniform in a sex-themed parade. Discipline will no doubt save all sinners.

Treatment for what? You can't change your personality and behavior overnight. His arrogance is an embarrassment to Congress and all that represents this country. If he cares about his wife or unborn child, he needs to resign immediately to retain some sense of responsibility and respect. His attitude is not helping his future.

Rehab for what...... narcissism, being a pathological liar, learning how to stop cheating on your new wife. This guy appears to believe people are stupid and a good public relations team can get you out of any situation because we common folk are all just plain stupid...... right Tony?
You can not even bring yourself to do the right thing in this shameful situation.
Quit Tony, stop putting your family, your constituency, the nation and the institution of Congress though this national nightmare because you have no job to go to. It's obvious to everyone that you are resisting quitting your job because you have no skills nor a profession to fall back on. Once again it's all about you. We can now add cowardliness to your ever expanding list of personal shortcomings. Sadly I've voted for this slime ball.

This is only the beginning of this Weiner mess...things have only just started surfacing...give it more time and this guy will be arrested! That is why the Dem want him out...afraid of what is coming, or already know!

Weiner does not need medical help but he needs a rabbi and moral HELP as soon as possible.

By claiming he has an illness its a way to say he is not responsible.

If Rep Weiner had gone outside his home or work and dropped his pants, deliberately exposing himself before an unsuspecting woman, he would be arrested and jailed.

Why isn't "sexting" a criminal offense when a man drops his pants, exposing himself to an unwilling viewer for his own sexual thrill?

The first woman who turned him in wasn't a willing viewer - - First she confirmed that the pictures were actually from Rep Weiner - then she collected the evidence and turned him into the news media.

I would say exposing oneself isn't cheating. Instead it's a serious act of sexual perversion. - - Cheating would mean he would expose himself to a willing recipient who would return the action by her sending him a similar picture of herself.

Mariah...I totally agree with you!! Believe me, worldwide - people in positions of power are useless individuals and have psychological problems - case in point at the moment - Strauss-Kahn and Schwazenegger! Not to mention Gadaffi et al!! No wonder the world is in a mess! Why do we VOTE for these idiots?

Weiner won't resign until he gets a job offer from someone.

Has George Bush been blamed for the "Weinerman" yet?

Is there really a place where he can go to cure himself of being a nasty egotistical jerk? It's not an addiction; it's boorish behavior.
