Weiner's rep released a statement saying, "[Congressman Weiner] will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well."

The statement went on to say, "Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents."

I read the sexting conversation after hearing it performed on the Bill Maher Show on HBO, Real Time. I found the full conversations on the internet and read them to find out the truth. Weiner was constantly being pursued by the woman and he most of the time wasn't answering. It was pretty shocking to realize that a famous Congressman would respond to sexual texting comments and take such a risk. But that is why he now realizes he has a problem and is getting treatment.

Carol, the congressman is the aggressor and not his intended victims.

When will liberals ever stop blaming the victims for the perpetrator's crimes?

P.S. Weiner does not realize he has a treatable problem.

He believes he is just fine and that he must do whatever dance is required to get back in office.

He is no more ready to be healed than the average crackhead.

He took a few photos and sent them by e-mail to other adults. That's not as bad as what other politicians have done and gotten away with it. Weiner has not done anything as serious as having oral sex with an intern over the Presidential Seal on the carpet in the Oval Office of the White House. Clinton was re-elected and is doing just fine, making lots of money off his previous celebrity. If Weiner needs to go to rehab and resign his office, why didn't Clinton have to do the same?

Treatment for what ? Arrogance? Lying?
Weiner has a much more serious problem -- mental that cannot be treated quickly. It could take years if ever. So going for treatment is a delaying tactic. He's hope someone will offer him another job out of the public eye and then he will resign. Otherwise he'll stay with total disregard to the disgrace he will face and cause the USA Congress. Weiner doesn't are about anyone but himself and his behavior has proven it over and over again. Disrespect and arrogance are his assets.

It's so obvious that Weiner is in live with himself in the lowest form. Grabbing his weiner, taking photos of himself, and making ugly faces to send to others. It's pathetic that a congressman has that kind of time to waste.

So...does he get his Congressional seat back after rehab?

How many Republicans have been given the same option?

What about the official government business that he was elected to attend to? No big deal?

All the excuses offered by bloggers reveals that we actually have the government we deserve.
We elect liars, excuse their bad behavior...then have the audacity to act indignant when they show themselves to be the immoral power wh-res they are.

America...the greatest nation the planet has ever seen...governed by the sorriest collection of self-serving, Constitution-perverting, hypocritical liars and narcissists to ever have slithered from the slime.

What does that say about us?

As a United States Marine I was injured and was with a Medical discharged after serving for 14 years 4+ of thoes years was spent in the RVN. One of my duty stations was as a brig chaser at which time I wittnesed several Marines and Saliors being discharged on Bad Conduct and other discharges less than Honorable. I actualy met a Marine with 20+ years who had a family problem and went awol he was gone for a period of time and was classified as deserter. These military personnel received discharges for less than honorable actions. The Gunnery Sgt with 20+ years lost all his retirement bennefits
SO MY QUESTION IS WHY CAN A CONGRESSMAN OR CONGRESSWOMAN OR ANY POLITICIAN COMIT A UNDESIRABLE ACT AND IS EITHER FORCED TO RESIGN OR JUST OUT AND OUT QUIET, AND STILL RECEIVE HIS/HER FULL BENNIFET PACKAGE WITH PAY?????. THEY SHOULD LOOSE IT ALL JUST AS A MILITARY MAN OR WOMAN WOULD DO IF THEY LEFT THE MILITARY UNDER LESS THAT HONORABLE CONDITIONS.

Gary,

First, thank you for your service, Marine!
Second, we who serve(d) (I was an Air Force jet mech @ the end of Vietnam), did so for the people of our great nation...NOT for the self-serving idiots who sit in Washington at our expense. Always remember that.
Until such time that "we the people" exercise our Constitutional right and get control of the government (instead of the other way around), we will continue to exist in the oily wake of these slimey bottom feeders.

Here's an option: Term limits!!!
One 6 year term for the President. That way, he/she could actually focus on leading the country, instead of campaigning for their re-election.
Two 4 year terms for Congress. That way we don't get the self-serving, deceitful hypocrit career politicians who make holding office their top priority, thus wh-ring themselves out to lobbyist, special interest groups and the media.

Nah...that'll never happen. Too much personal power at stake.

Tar? Feathers? Get the rail!!!

Who would want this man representing them in Congress? He has lied, displayed extraordinary arrogance and an incredible lack of judgment. I'm sure there are some potential candidates or apointees, with the same progressive agenda, who could serve out his term. Rehab...? Really...? Have we learned nothing from Brett Favre.
