Super Bowl Hero: Gay Marriage Will Lead to 'Anarchy'

6/16/2011 6:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ex-NY Giants receiver David Tyree -- who made the LEGENDARY helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII -- is coming out against gay marriage HARD ... claiming it's the first step on the road to "ANARCHY."061511_david_tyree_still

Tyree made the statements during an interview earlier today with the National Organization for Marriage -- a faith-based anti-gay marriage group.

During the interview, Tyree is asked about the push to legalize gay marriage in the United States -- and says if it happens, "This will be the beginning of our country sliding toward ... it's a strong word, but anarchy."

0615_David_Tyree_GETTY
To reinforce his point, Tyree says, "You can't teach something that you don't have ... so two men will never be able to show a woman how to be a woman."

And the kicker, Tyree -- who's black -- says, "How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all the sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or agenda ... and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country."

FYI -- Tyree's statement comes almost 44 years to the day after interracial marriage was legalized in the United States ... thanks, in part, to the agenda of an influential minority.

David Tyree is 100% RIGHT. Do we vilify a gay man for saying a heterosexual lifestyle is wrong? Of course not - that would be bigotry. We can NO LONGER speak up in this country, or disagree with someone or something without immediately being called a bigot or racist. Our country is falling apart - and we're wondering why. Look around us. Anything goes now, and it coincides with the social agendas being forced down our throats.

Classy. I am so glad he is staying true to his minority roots. Oh wait...

Ed Ed

Now he will get slammed for saying something he believes in. I applaud him for taking a stand against immorality.

Uh, weren't blacks an influential minority not long ago? I remember people saying the same thing about civil rights of African Americans. He sounds like a rich white guy 50 years ago.

Updog Updog

If marriage is so sacred then we should outlaw divorce.

Good going Tyree!! Finally someone to stand up for what is right! Real men stand up for what they believe in and don't apologize like the wimps Kobe and Obama! Tyree, you are awesome!

MeMe MeMe

It's wonderful to see such an influential man standing up for what he believes in. We need more like him!

TheMarshmallowMan TheMarshmallowMan

Why does anyone care who someone marries, grow the f up. The strongest empires (greek and rome) embraced homosexuality and only faltered when Christianity took over. Maybe he should pick up a history book.

Phil Alger Phil Alger

Lets get real! It's wrong all you all know it! Marriage is between a woman & a man! Now how would you multiple any other way! Please don't be so stupid to say a surrogate, that just enforces what I said!

Little Lord Rivas Little Lord Rivas

Strong words for a guy who catches balls in his face.

Bee Bee

I applaud this young man for speaking up.

David Tyree was raised by a single mother and has 2 sisters. Yet SOMEHOW he managed to "learn to be a man". Sort of flies in the face of his asinine logic, no?

gay people should have the same right to be unhappy like everyone else.

I dont believe in straight or gay marriage.

but it is their choice of who they can spend their life with.

people all ways want to control each others lives.

Time to move on..! Is this an attempt to get another 15 minutes of fame from a washed up EX football player? Discrimination comes in many forms.. we can go back only a few decades when getting rid of segregation was unheard of.. I am sure many thought that was the beginning of ANARCHY.. never happened did it..? MOVE ON.

@Muppet, I totally this agree, yes i m sad and pathetic, now that thats out..
You can look at a person and say hes black, or hes white, or hes asian..
You can't look at a person in the same manner and say hes gay or not gay. Thats why there is a thing called "COMING OUT THE CLOSET"

of course on this site most people think there is some gay gene, because most people on TMZ are gay, YES I AM GAY AND IT IS MY OWN CHOICE DAMNIT.

Why is David Tyree not allowed to have that opinion? It may be a radical viewpoint to the Hollywood liberals at TMZ, but a large portion of the country agrees with him. The overwhelming majority of blacks agree with him.

The biggest homophobes are actually gay themselves.... he must be on the down lowwww. lol all joking aside, who really cares who marries who? Everyone is getting married and divorcing, cheating on each other which is a "sin". Why should it matter if it's a man and a man or woman and a woman? Heck...there are geeks out there marrying their favorite anime girl.... hahaha a fictional character

This ignorance makes me physically ill.

I am anxiously looking forward to the day, in the very near future, where every person in this country has equal rights. EVERY PERSON.

All of you bigots can look forward to the day when your grandchildren look back on the days before gay marriage was legal, and are ashamed of this society. Just like we look back to how society was before Civil Rights, and shake our heads in disbelief now.

The change is coming, whether your questionable christian "values" approve of it or not.

I don't know why gays want to mimic the straight model. I prefer the Goldie Hawn Kurt Russell approach to relationships.

Unfortunately for this gentleman there is empirical evidence that the sky will not fall is gay marriage is allowed. Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden all have legal same sex marriage. And archdiocese of Spain (a VERY Catholic country) and the Netherlands have both stated gay marriage has been BENEFICIAL to society. TRY AGAIN DUMMY!

Bee- so it is just male gay sex that seems unnatural? Has a man ever gone down on you? Did you slap him and tell him to stop being so lesbian?

First step of anarchy?? What will happen? Gay men, and women running around celebrating life, and the right to love, and marry who they choose. If people don't like how gay people celebrate there love for each other, than don'*****ch. I am not a gay man, but i have relatives who are gay, friends who are gay, and I love them with all of my heart no matter what. Some people hate for no reason, and think that anything that they perceive as "Different" must be wrong. Mr Tyree is definitely entitled to his opinion, but a little more thought should have gone into what he said in this interview, and he would not look so (In my opinion) foolish.

GLAAD and TMZ seem to want BULLY everyone who does not share their opinion into making apologies, this is getting old. This site is becoming like PerezHilton, I am sure he has picked up on this and is having a stroke right now. I don't visit his site because of his rants against anyone who doesn't agree with his agenda.

The guy has the right to defend his religious believes whether or not TMZ or Glaad agree with him or not. Now TMZ and GLAAD stop your bullying. I am not saying I agree with him or not, but it just seems NO ONE can speak their mind about certain issues.

Good for him! It seems like you can't stand up for what you beleive in unless it's what GLAAD beleives. No one deserves or should be bullied, not gays and not those you don't beleive in gay marriage. If you ask me GLAAD has become the biggest bully of them all. Anarchy is taking it a bit to far but he is right about one thing, marriage is meant to be between a man and a women. Let's see if he can stick to his beleifs or if he will be forced to issue an appology. Let's not forget about out 1st admendment!
