Mark Ballas

Gives the Shirt Off His Back,

Raises $12,000 for Charity

"Dancing with the Stars" stud Mark Ballas single-handedly raised more than $12 THOUSAND for the elderly last weekend -- all because he forgot to bring a change of clothes to a charity benefit.

Mark volunteered to perform at the 4th Annual Avamar Foundation benefit in Warren, Ohio -- representing The Beat of Ohio dance studio -- but we're told, he only brought one outfit ... and after performing ... had to borrow a shirt from the host.

Sources at the event tell TMZ Mark was so moved by the benefit, he decided to sign the shirt ... and auction it off. He also threw in front row VIP tickets to 'DWTS' for two nights, backstage passes, and pictures with the other dancing pros.

All the swag raked in $12,500 during the two day benefit.

The Kaiser is impressed Ballas cares for the elderly. The Kaiser still thinks DWTS is for chix, though.

I like this guy. He is one of the better dancers on DWTS. But, he doesn't get the same recognition from the judges because he is not one of the "pretty people."

I love this story. Mark Ballas strikes me as someone who does kind things naturally as part of his everyday life. He's enjoying himself, both in work and at play, but he also doesn't seem so affected by his high-profile life that he forgot where he came from. I respect and admire that very much.

Great, so he gave the shirt off his back, and... tickets and passes he didn't have to pay for, as well as pictures with all his friends, probably without asking? VERY generous.

Nice to see Ballas doing something nice for someone else. Usual when a camera is pointed in his direction he starts to whine about how mistreated he is.....maybe that is just on DWTS!!!

Leader of the ignorant masses

Regardless of how i feel about any celebrity, i will always give them credit when they do something to benefit someone less fortunate. I give the most respect to those who go out and break a sweat to help people. But even when its something easy to do i give credit because at least they chose to do it. Unlike some celebrities who cannot even take court ordered community service seriously.

TMZ should do a little better research, Mark DID NOT volunteer for the event, he was paid to perform, and the idea to auction off the shirt actually came from the doctor that hosted the event. While Mark was awesome and significantly helped in the raising of the money, there is a ton of credit not being given to who it should go to.
