Mel Gibson

Why I Want to Make A

Jewish Hero Movie

9/10/2011 8:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

0909_mel_gibson_ex
Mel Gibson has a passion for the story of Judah Maccabee, one of the greatest Jewish heroes of all time, but is not doing the movie as an act of contrition.

Sources very close to Mel tell TMZ ... Gibson does not feel the need to bridge a gap between himself and the Jewish community, because he doesn't believe a gap exists.  They say Mel is adamant -- he does not hate Jews, noting that his lawyers are Jewish, his publicist is Jewish, and he has many Jewish friends and employees.

As for Mel's anti-Semitic rant during his 2006 DUI arrest, Mel has written two public letters of apology and also met with numerous leaders in the Jewish community to discuss where he went wrong.

0909_mel_docs
As for the movie, Mel has wanted to produce it for a decade, telling our sources it's actually a statement against corruption in the church.  Mel believes Maccabee's story parallels the modern church, and he thinks the movie will help force change.

"They say Mel is adamant -- he does not hate Jews, noting that his lawyers are Jewish, his publicist is Jewish, and he has many Jewish friends and employees."

Those are the words of a bigot..."I'm not a racist I have black friends."

if 9-11 and the holocost ( which according to Mel never happened, guess with all that money he never went to Aushwitz to see what hate, words, and bigotry can do, people with numbered tattoos and dead relatives will disagree with his belief)should have taught us all is that people that use religion for hate including when drunk, showing their true nature as a dumb, ignorant, evil person, they definitely do not deserve to make a dollar from anyone, especially not over 2 hours of twisted entertainment from a nut job. no one should see any of his movies!! No one should give a hateful person that throw*****eful, bigoted ideas around any money or fame.

Change starts with you A*&hole! If you're keeping count on how many Jewish friends you have then you're racists. It's like the Klansman that's on trial for lynching a black man and has a black attorney. All smoke and mirrors!!!

I don't think for a second that he's half as bad as he was made out to be by carefully-edited tapes released by his gold-digging Russian ex

He is trying to pay for his mistake, because you cannot work in Hollywood without Jewish good will. He is a drunken misogynist and hater of huge groups of people. He is in his early 50's and looks 70. So long, mel.

I am so glad this came out; that this is not an act of contrition on his part.

Not an act of contrition, but just work he wants to do. I don't see what he has to be remorseful over. All we've really heard about the "bad" things from Mel, comes from what someone else wants us to hear or believe. The anit-jewish remarks (ask told to us by the cop) and the tapes (as manipulated by Oxsana and crew) - I don't know the man, but can not believe how everyone seems to jump on every move he makes, every thing he says, etc...

That poor ol' rabbi seemed like an old fool to me yesterday. I'm just glad to see Mel goes on with his life and not feel the need to jump on some talk show everytime someone complains and says that's what he should go. These people seems to have nothing better to do but follow Mel - Mel has a lot of living, so Go Mel!

As the Rabbi made very clear yesterday with his little parable of the chicken feathers, the prejudiced and bigoted "Jewish Community" that he claims to represent will not forgive anything, nor will they change their minds if they are wrong.

A potentially great historical epic made into a petty and personally spiteful power grab rather than art.

Anni,
He cannot work in Hollywood without Jewish good will. Do you see anything wrong with that statement that you made Anni?
And yet it is Mel Gibson who is hiring jewish people, gay people, black people and women.
And you call MEL a drunken misogynist and a hater of huge groups of people.
Oh Anni, Anni, Anni.

Forget his drunkin rants. The "Passion of the Christ" was designed to stir up hatred against Jews.

Mel's first mistake in Hollywood: being a vocal Catholic
Mel's second mistake in Hollywood: making the Passion of Christ
Mel's third mistake: hooking up with the slug-lipped, Russian gypsy grifter with the recording equipment.

Yeah, he drank... maybe still drinks on occasion. Yeah, he's a little nutty. He shoots his mouth off and what comes out is often dramatic... hyperbole... meant to cause a reaction... but he's an actor, director, writer and an artist. He's not a damn insurance salesmen, or a bean counter.

Give him a break. Some people just won't be happy until they get his intestines on a stick. There is SO much WORSE out there in Hollywood. But they go under the radar... (see above)...
