'Idol' Champ Lee DeWyze

Dropped By Record Label

10/6/2011 10:05 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The honeymoon is over for "American Idol" alum Lee DeWyze -- the season 9 champ has been dumped by his record label ... just a year-and-a-half after winning the title.

DeWyze was signed with RCA Records -- whose artist roster includes former Idol stars Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks.

As for Lee -- he's taking the whole thing in stride -- according to his rep, who says DeWyze is "in a good place right now" and working on "several exciting projects".

There are two good American Idols Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson the rest suck. Why do they even still have the show when we all forget the person who won the next year.

This is a shame. I know that American Idol has become total crap over the years, but I totally fell in love with Lee's story. Hard working individual trying to make it into the business, it's really moving. It's sad that things didn't work out. In my opinion, he is very talented and his music is very soothing. And a lot of people enjoyed it (if you're into really mellow soft rock). I guess it's a bad time to be an AI winner now. It sucks that we look at these people as AI winners, and not as recording artists. Best of wishes to Lee!

There are a grand total of about four "Idol" alumni who have had "noteworthy" success afterward. These would obviously include Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, and Kelly Clarkson, in that order. Then you have a small handful of third tier performers with "modest" success, like Kellie Pickler, Elliott Yamin, Jordin Sparks, Ruben Studdard, etc . . . Everyone else, which would include the vast "majority" of the contestants, are in fact, TRULY FORGETTABLE!!!!!!

Sorry...disagree, David Cook is doing fine, looking fine and has a beautiful voice, maybe he isn't "blockbuster" material, but he does sell records!

Other than Carrie Underwood and to a certain extent Kelly Clarkson have any of the American Idol winners been successful? It makes u wonder why people wait in lines to be on this show when the end result is that you aren't going to be a superstar anyway.

TMZ never gets it right but for the record David Archuleta left the Jive label and he was not dropped. He wanted to leave. The Jive label is not even around now as it merged with RCA. That is how well that label was doing. Also David was not an idol winner, he was a runner up. I am sure more idol winners will get cut from RCA/Sony in the future due to low sales. Isn't this about Lee DeWyze getting dropped? So why mention other idols.

Wait, your saying an American idol champ has failed in the music industry... are you kidding me? How is that possible!!!

Aren't these winners supposed to be great singers, American idols in fact? I mean what is the success rate of American idol, only a few notable figures succeeded out of around 20+ people that either went on to win idol or were part of the last few contestants to be eliminated... wow, not much of a success rate. Idol does for singers what Dancing With the Has-Beens does for dancers.
