Amy Winehouse Drank

Herself to Death

10/26/2011 9:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

amy whinehouse alcohol
Amy Winehouse
's blood alcohol level was more than 4 times the legal limit at the time of her death ... this according to the coroner who says the singer died as a direct result of over-consumption.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway described the situation as, "Death by misadventure" ... noting that Winehouse voluntarily pounded an extraordinary amount of liquor in the hours before she died on July 23.

Winehouse -- who battled substance abuse issues for years -- was 27 years old at the time of her death.

Amy's family released a statement ... saying, "It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy.  We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away, it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days."

The statement continues, "The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time. She had started drinking again that week after a period of abstinence."

"It underlines how important our work with the Amy Winehouse Foundation is to us, to help as many young people and children as we can in her name."

"It means a lot to us and from the overwhelming messages of support we have had since Amy died, we know she meant a great deal to people all over the world.  We want to thank everyone for that and for their continuing enthusiasm for the Foundation."

Given, Winehouse had a gift for song. What she did to her body was on her. The two are not related. You abuse yourself die, plain and simple. What did Amy Winehouse die from? She died from being Amy Winehouse.

No tears here. She was a total waste of human existence with little to no talent. Her views on rehab worked against her here. Sad but she only has herself to blame. She will pay the price for all eternity. Just Saying...!

good as gold

With a blood alcohol level of .41 that would have been one heck of a hangover if she survived.

"When they asked me to go to rehab, I should have said Yes, Yes, Yes."-Amy Winehouse in the afterlife. She had a drinking problem and she died for it. I hope that this is a warning for the casts of pro-alcohol abuse shows like MTV's Jersey Shore.

She's baaaack

I can drink with the best of them but I've never been anywhere near acute alcohol toxicity. She must have drunk a vat of the stuff.

The excuses her family is continuing to make are what led to her early death. Had her family stopped enabling her and making see-through excuses, she would probably be clean and sober or she'd at least be alive. The addicts that tend to survive are the ones who's families fight for them, get hard and tough, and force them to face their actions. We all know Amy didn't start drinking again the "week she died". She probably never stopped!

So sad her life had to end this way, such a unique and talented singer, wanted her to get better and make more soulful music.

Darwin baby!!!! Choose to party like a rock star, die an early death like a rock star.

Her death should be celebrated as a wonderful teaching tool for little children. Choices have consequences, kids.

Choose to be gay, you will probably get AIDS. Those are just facts, kids.

Straight Talkin Texan

It's sad, tragic, etc. But I think it's kind of poetic justice that her obsession/addiction/weakness killed her.

I feel like
if I drank four times
the legal limit, that
I would be trying to commit

Very expected. Her real talent was getting plastered and overdosing on drugs. She couldn't sing to save her life.

Alcohol does not build up over the course of several days. If the alcohol was in her system for days it was because she was drinking non-stop for days.

Gee, there's a surprise.
