'Real World' Cast Member Sues

'I Was Raped With a Toothbrush'

10/27/2011 4:42 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A cast member on MTV's "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins" claims male members acted like animals during production, in one case raping her with a toothbrush ... this according to a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ.

Tonya Cooley filed the suit against MTV, Bunim/Murray Productions, Kenneth Santucci, Evan Starkman and others ... claiming the two guys "took another male participant's toothbrush and rubbed the toothbrush around plaintiff's genitals, including rubbing her labia and inserting the toothbrush into plaintiff's vagina."

Cooley says it all happened while she was passed out cold ... and cameras were rolling.

Cooley says producers not only knew about the rape, they even replaced the toothbrush, but never told her what happened.

The suit also claims female cast members were stripped of their bathing suits and that male cast members were encouraged by producers to "inappropriately touch female cast members' bodies, including in intimate areas."

Cooley alleges she and other cast members reported incidents of sexual abuse, but show honchos turned a blind eye.

Cooley claims she was later booted from the show after slapping a cast member.  She says nothing happened to the men who allegedly raped her.

Cooley is suing for unspecified damages. Calls to MTV have not been returned.

We made several calls to Bunim/Murray for comment, but each time we called ... the receptionist hung up on us.

BS

I find it hard to believe. Go to youtube and search for Real World Girl Fight to see this nutjob. She's probably just bitter because they kicked her off the show. Why would MTV encourage criminal activity and film the evidence of it? It's not like they could air something like that. The show is also produced by a woman (Mary-Ellis Bunim), and I find it very hard to believe she would ever allow that kind of thing.

You know what, it doesn't fricken matter if you're on a reality show or not. Something like that is WRONG and CRIMINAL. She is still a person and while i wouldn't exactly call it "rape" it is VERY CLEARLY a BIG invasion of privacy and definitely sexual abuse. I wouldn't just sit around with my head in the sane either.

is anyone else not wondering just *how* it is than she's come to know this information especially if she was passed out... there's no tape evidence and she's going on the words of... WHOM exactly?

and i know the "parrots" keep repeating "it was all on video" but here's the thing... if producers allegedly covered it up, they're NOT going to show her the tape in the first place... and since this article mentions no one else in her corner aside from the people she's named (but not joined the suit with her...), who's this mystery person who showed her the proof?

Rape is a very serious matter and not to be taken lightly . One thing missing from her statement -- a police report !

I find it disgusting that ANYONE would make excuses for this being OK!!

First of all, how does anyone know that they didn't slip her a mickey to make her pass out?

Secondly, I don't care if the woman is a prostitute, she is a human being first! Nobody is allowed to sexually violate anyone, male or female.

Third, do any of you remember that movie, years ago, where Jodie Foster played a woman who was sexually permiscuous and got gang raped at a local bar, while patrons just did nothing and/or watched the whole thing? Well, all those guys went to jail for RAPE!!

If MTV has any knowledge of this happening, and did nothing aboout it, or God forbid encouraged it, they should be shut the hell DOWN! What the hell is happening to people these days? Are we becomming so de-sensitized by these reality shows that we have lost all human decency and compassion for our fellow man and can say something like "she deserved it" or pull out any excuse to justify people being raped? We are not animals, and if this is true something seriously needs to be done to stop this from happening again.

And none of us know what really happened, true, but to immediately defend MTV, without knowing the truth, to something this heinous is detestable. Personally, I feel that women that cry rape when it's untrue, and ruin lives in the process of their lie, should be jailed as well as the people that actually do the raping.

I'm just amazed by the cold, callous remarks on this thread. My God, we're not barbarians from the stone age....or are we?

And just why was she passed out cold? Bet she cashed her pay check before she sued. These reality stars cause their own problem. She's just looking for another 3 minutes of fame.

This is serious! I hope that all involved who participated in this horrendous criminal act of sexual assault is held accountable, including the onlookers who encouraged, laughed or watched it happen. I also hope other females who were touched inappropriately come forward and ban together against MTV and cast members guilty of these acts. It is not okay no matter where it happens, it is a crime, if college students did it in a dorm, at a bar, etc, just because it is a reality TV show, and MTV, does not mean all involved cannot be legally held responsible! I hope they all go to jail and have to sit and think if they still think this was so funny.

No matter what she looks like, how she may have acted, or if she was drunk or passed out or not, IT IS NEVER OKAY to sexually assault someone or molest them!

Sexual abuse is sexual abuse and the abusers who watched, encouraged it, thought it was funny, need to be brought up on charges for this crime, ALL of them!

I hope that witnesses are willing to testify on her behalf and any other women who were molested come forward too.

She was a victim of an awful crime. There is no minimizing that, justifying that and those who want to intimidate and abuse her more to keep her silent, are just as guilty of a sexual crime.

Speak out! Let your voice be heard and hold them accountable.

Sexual abuse is NOT okay no matter if it is being hidden by a major network or popular reality show. NEVER okay.

Have a voice and speak out and do what you have to do to get justice!

Obviously there's a whole lot more to this story to be heard, but the fact that so many posters on here are saying she deserved it, or are making a joke out of it because they don't particularly "like" her is disgusting!

Most of those posters are men, I assume. And maybe if more "men" experienced being raped, we would be seeing totally different comments....
