Brett Ratner

Quits Oscars

after Homophobic Slur

Brett Ratner
claims he's officially "resigned" as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards ... after dropping the homophobic F-bomb at a media event Sunday night.

Ratner -- best known for directing the "Rush Hour" movies -- was at a fan Q&A session for "Tower Heist" Sunday when he told the crowd, "Rehearsal is for f*gs."

Now, he's penned an open letter ... apologizing for the "hurtful and stupid things I've said" ... and adding, "Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted."

Ratner continued, "Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents."

Ratner says he's been in contact with GLAAD -- the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation -- and he promises he will work to "increase awareness of the important and troubling issues this episode has raised."

"I deeply regret my actions and I am determined to learn from this experience."

Tom Sherak -- the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences -- issued a statement saying, "[Brett] did the right thing for the Academy and for himself."

He added, "Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent."

If you are a public person, you need to KNOW how to behave in public. Man.. this happens all the time. They HAVE to know better. And I'm sure they do.

What he said was stupid, but hollywood puts out stupidity. Still, he shouldn't be treated like a criminal for the word, apologize and move on. But this community service that seems to come with offending the gay community is imperialistic and ostracism within itself. It really is a mob organization to politicize something insignificant. It is not like the N-word that has torturous history to it with one meaning. It's about the intent, and his intent was meaning wimps.

He looks like a self-hating sword swallower. Ugly on the inside, and ugly on the outside.

This is getting way out of hand. Lets do a language check after a gay married couple has been together for a few years. Once they find out what their hard fought marriage is really about, run for cover. They have no clue now.

See the little ****** with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That little ****** got his own jet airplane

They still dont edit that song.

Honestly, Brett Ratner has been a dirtball s***bag for at least 12 years. He is gross and not really all that talented. Clearly he must have been brought along with some family connections. The hard facts are that he hits on every girl that moves and flaunts his status. He is fat, gross and ill mannered and I can only guarantee that he probably said at least 50 more flagrant things that day alone. Hopefully he goes away now, though I doubt it. He is having fun in life, but has missed the plot entirely. PS. Look at his leg shake from all the cocaine he inhaled before he went on stage. Brett Ratner is crass.

Notice how not one person in the entire crowd took offense to the comment, and in fact, most people laughed out loud.

To use the "F-word" as a derogatory term is linguistically accurate. His intent was to show that rehearsing was for weak people with weak minds and for people that are undesireable. This accurately describes males who choose to gargle s*m*n and willingly put their pe**ses into human a$$es. This behavior is weak and undesireable behavior because those males will most likely NOT be reproducing, thereby giving up the entire purpose of being a man.

LOL This reminds me of the South Park episode when they tried to officially change the meaning of *** in the dictionary.Since the boys use the word but meaning anyone who rode a loud Fn Harley.

"****" is no longer a direct slur on the gay community - this is ridiculous -

Now I worry Eddie Murphy will have to tip-toe around all night instead of being Eddie Murphy.

Brett Ratner was a great choice and this is just nonsense.

Now some old guy will produce it and we'll be back to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers clips.

The Gay Community is now a respected and beloved part of the entertainment industry and it's up to them to say EASE OFF and bring Brett back.
