Penn State Scandal

Giving Mike McQueary a Pass?!

11/10/2011 12:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

111011_tmzlive

Penn State fires Joe Paterno, but says it's cool for Mike McQueary to coach this weekend? The same McQueary who, according to testimony, witnessed Jerry Sandusky's alleged rape of a young boy.

Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and a former PSU player -- joined us to rip his alma mater's handling of the scandal. Plus, student body prez TJ Bard tries to explain why some students are on the fence about an issue that's so black and white.

Outrage and frustration -- two things you'll feel after today's episode. We did.

(3:01) PSU fires Paterno, but not McQueary -- who witnessed a boy being raped ... and then ran away like a coward.
(6:40) Harvey reads the shocking grand jury testimony about what McQueary claims to have witnessed.
(10:25) PSU student body president TJ Bard is on the phone. He says if "anyone has aided in the continued abuse of a child" doesn't belong at the school -- but refuses to say McQueary should be fired.
(12:45) Why won't Bard stand up against McQueary?
(15:00) How can the students honor the victims ... if they let McQueary at the game?
(17:10) Shocking -- there's no line of communication between the university and Bard.
(23:50) Another student calls in -- and won't take a hard stand on the issue. So frustrating.
(42:40) Matt Hahn -- Rachel Uchitel's husband and former PSU football player -- calls in ... and FINALLY ... someone takes a serious stand against the school.

TMZ...care to explain the thinking behind giving this man a pass? Doesn't make sense to me.

sad, if mike's kid brother or family member was pinned against a shower wall, i bet he would have called the cops. HE NEEDS TO GO AS WELL.

It would be kind of amusing if you took some calls from the people who are getting all bent about the LL/Heavy D story from this morning.

There's a lot of time between now and Saturday. McQueary will be gone before then. If the allegations are true, then Ped State, all its entitled coaches and obnoxious student demonstrators who think they are more important than the life of the children raped in their showers, deserve to out on the street. As this unravels and the criminal charges and civil suits proceed, may this institution be financially bankrupted as it obviously is morally bankrupted.

Hey Harvey --

What's your take here on Clery Act violations. The Clery Act requires schools with police or security departments to make a "timely warning" of crimes occurring on campus. Does that obligation lie with the school as an entity? Or does it lie with any and all individuals representing the school?

He was an eye witness, did NOTHING to stop what he saw happening, which is disgusting enough, did not go to the actual police and report it, and never cared enough to follow up when he saw that Sandusky was still on staff, yet gets a free pass doesn't get fired, and is now going to be allowed to coach the upcoming game? What kind of B.S. is that, and WHY is it being allowed?!

Nope. Not right. He saw it, he didn't call authorities, he got to get the steppin right along with anyone else that let this crap continue.

Those rioters are a bunch of idiots. Oh yeah the school is REALLY going to pay attention to you and keep the coach if your turn over news vehicles and do immature crap. Idiots.

" TWO QUESTIONS AND ONE COMMENT "

1. IS SCHOOL PART OF A CULT OR ITS OWN SOCIETY ?

2. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PPL. DON'T THEY KNOW FROM WHAT

IS RIGHT TO WHAT IS WRONG ?

COMMENT: IF I WAS TOLD ABOUT A RAPE I WOULD TELL FIRST THE

PERSON OR PPL IN CHARGE OF THE SCHOOL THEN GO TO THE

POLICE. I WOULD NOT WAIT! WOULD YOU ?

What if McQueary is being treating soft by Penn State because he was a victim of Sandusky also. He had some sort of 20 year old repressed memory panic attack and ran. Then told Paterno expecting the most powerful man he knew to make it right, but nothing happened. This is why he hasn't been fired. He grew up in State College. Penn State is fearful of his mental state right now.

Cancel the season, who could or would want to play after this mess! Start anew next season, after the smoke has cleared.

He witnesses a rape and then goes home and calls his daddy?? And his daddy told him what?? Wow, there are so many people involved in this that could have done something and did not. I hope these people sleep well at night. Who is the first one that will off themselves?

Mike McQueary was a 6'3" former football player who could have intervened when he saw that little boy being sodomized.

What kind of 28 year old man doesn't act like an adult and call the police during this situation but instead runs home to his daddy like a little punk - and he is in a position of leadership??!!

What a joke - instead of displaying the character that he should have learned while at Penn State, he gladly kept his mouth shut, went along with the coverup and was rewarded a six-figure position on the coaching staff.

It's unbelievable this guy still has a job!!!

Or maybe this: McQueary might be bulletproof, actually. He's a whistle-blower in this case. There are substantial legal ramifications for PSU to fire the whistle-blower who's an adverse witness against the school administration. He's also the prosecution's best witness. Perhaps scape-goating him too isn't in your best interest, if you think Sandusky is guilty. Because without McQueary, it's just he said-she said, with no physical evidence.
